Those hotel room safes - how secure are they actually?

I did just that, and man, what an eye-opener!

This video especially: Gone In 60 Seconds

A modern and high-tech looking courtesy safe, cracked in less than a minute with a multi-tool and a paper clip!

Dunno what safe that was in the vid, but the ones we use at my hotel do NOT have that handy little plate on the front of the safe door to use to get in. In fact, I would hate to be the one trying to get in the ones we use, IMO.

OTOH, all one has to do is pry the safe off the wooden shelf it's screwed onto & carry it home to open with a dremel or some such.

A room safe keeps the hotel employees from grabbing one's shit, is all.

Hell, that's not even 100%.

Depends on the safe. As long as one doesn't use a code of 1-2-3-4 to set the lock, no one will get it in quickly.

Probably saves the maid some time, as she doesn't have to search for where you have hidden your valuables.
