I locked myself out of my My Documents folder.
I can write files to these folders, but I can't open them or copy them into another directory. I can't change the file names either. Even when I'm logged in as Administrator.

Here is what CACLS returns for the directory:
DELL_1\Administrator:(OI)(CI)F
DELL_1\admin:(OI)(CI)F
BUILTIN\Administrators:(OI)(CI)F
CREATOR OWNER:(OI)(CI)(IO)F
NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)F
BUILTIN\Users:(CI)(special access:)

SYNCHRONIZE
FILE_WRITE_DATA

BUILTIN\Users:(CI)(special access:)

SYNCHRONIZE
FILE_APPEND_DATA

BUILTIN\Users:(OI)(CI)R

How do I fix this? I was trying to lock other users out of these directories. I had them specified as "Disallow", but I removed those permission entries trying to fix this.

Thanks!

If you werent logged on as administrator before do it now.you have to take ownership of the file. Then you can set or in this casw reset the permissions.

Right click properties/click on security tab/hit the advance button towards the bottom/permissions tab

I logged in as administrator and took ownership of the directory. The permissions should then be ok. No?
Do I have to re-do all the permissions?
It still won't let me in, even as administrator.

OK. The MS KB article I looked at was pretty lame. It said All I had to do to take ownership was click on the Admin or Admin group in the folder security properties then click OK. I found the advanced button with the tab owner and applied it to all the underlying objects.
Now Administrator can get in, but not me as a user.

Now CACLS gives me this on the directory:

DELL_1\Tactical:(OI)(CI)F
CREATOR OWNER:(OI)(CI)(IO)F
DELL_1\Administrator:(OI)(CI)F
DELL_1\admin:(OI)(CI)F
BUILTIN\Administrators:(OI)(CI)F
CREATOR OWNER:(OI)(CI)(IO)F
NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)F
BUILTIN\Users:(CI)(special access:)
SYNCHRONIZE
FILE_WRITE_DATA

BUILTIN\Users:(CI)(special access:)
SYNCHRONIZE
FILE_APPEND_DATA

BUILTIN\Users:(OI)(CI)R

I get "Access Denied" when I CACLS underlying files logged in as Tactical.

OK. I just figured out how to make the permissions cascade.
Thanks!
