ETA: by modern I mean the last 50 years
"Where The Rose Is Sown" - BIG COUNTRY (Scottish rock band, 1983-2001) Live, the singer/writer introduced it as being "about how one generation will sacrifice itself for the sake of another..." we're at war all the papers say we will win i run to tell you we are strong it wasn't us we are right who started this? leave your work i just left school leave your home i am no fool take up arms I must be strong sound alarms the school bell rings CH: sons of men who stand like gods we give life to feed the cause and run to ground our heathen foe our name will never die and as time will be forever join up here i wave goodbye we need you oh by our sides have no fear i must try God will be with braver men take the vow i know its right praise the flag the good fight we're at war i'm on my way we will win why do i pray ? CH: sons of men who stand like gods we give life to feed the cause and run to ground our heathen foe our name will never die and as time will be forever i wait here in this hole playing poker with my soul i hold the rifle close to me it lights the way to keep me free if i die in a combat zone box me up and ship me home if i die and still come home lay me where the rose is sown CH: sons of men who stand like gods we give life to feed the cause and run to ground our heathen foe our name will never die as time will be forever This was the 80s, so...styles have changed obviously The first link is a 'live' styled video with superior sound, the 2nd is really live but with dodgy sound. WHERE THE ROSE IS SOWN video (better sound) WHERE THE ROSE IS SOWN - live circa 1986 |

Since you are considering the 80's as "modern" in terms of music, I submit;
Aces High - Iron Maiden There goes the siren that warns of the air raid Then comes the sound of the guns sending flak Out for the scramble weve got to get airborne Got to get up for the coming attack. Jump in the cockpit and start up the engines Remove all the wheelblocks theres no time to waste Gathering speed as we head down the runway Gotta get airborne before its too late. Running, scrambling, flying Rolling, turning, diving, going in again Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die Run, live to fly, fly to live. aces high. Move in to fire at the mainstream of bombers Let off a sharp burst and then turn away Roll over, spin round and come in behind them Move to their blindsides and firing again. Bandits at 8 oclock move in behind us Ten me-109s out of the sun Ascending and turning our spitfires to face them Heading straight for them I press down my guns Rolling, turning, diving Rolling, turning, diving, going in again Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die Run, live to fly, fly to live, aces high. |

Not exactly war, but not what you typically find in the music industry either.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=-o6xrSyhVhc The album version isn't so accoustic. |

Offspring
Hammerhead song here I am the one, Camouflage and guns, Risk my life To keep my people from harm Authority, Vested in me I sacrifice With my brothers in arms Through this doorway, What's on the other side? Never knowing Exactly what I'll find Locked and loaded Voices screaming Let's go! Come on do it! Here we go I'll take a life That others may live Oh that's just the way it goes I'll shut my eyes It hammers in my head Where it'll end Nobody knows I'll take a life Ten others may live Oh that's just the way it goes It's playing over and over in my head Where it'll end Nobody knows Stay the course Reasonable force I believe I serve a greater good Smoke and dust Enemies are crushed Nothing left Where a man once stood Through this doorway, What's on the other side? Never knowing Exactly what I'll find Locked and loaded, Voices screaming Let's go I'm just doing what I'm told I'll take a life That others may live Oh that's just the way it goes Shut my eyes It hammers in my head Where it'll end Nobody knows I'll take this life Ten others may live Oh that's just the way it goes It's playing over and over in my head Where it begins And where it'll end Nobody knows Bang, bang, It hammers in my head! Bang, bang, It hammers in my head! Bang, bang, It hammers in my head! In my head In my head Yea, Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil: for Thou art with me Locked and loaded Gonna find my truth now I'm busting through All hell breaks loose And you can all hide behind your desks now And you can cry 'teacher come help me!' Through you all My aim is true! My aim is true! My aim is true! |

My current PT anthem of choice:
Disturbed - Indestructible Another mission The powers have called me away Another time To carry the colors again My motivation An oath I’ve sworn to defend To win the honor Of coming back home again No explanation Will matter after we begin Another dark destroyer that’s buried within My true vocation And now my unfortunate friend You will discover A war you’re unable to win I'll have you know That I’ve become… Indestructible Determination that is incorruptible From the other side A terror to behold Annihilation will be unavoidable Every broken enemy will know That their opponent had to be invincible Take a last look around while you’re alive I’m an indestructible master of war Another reason Another cause for me to fight Another fuse uncovered Now, for me to light My dedication To all that I’ve sworn to protect I carry out my orders With not a regret A declaration Embedded deep under my skin A permanent reminder Of how we began No hesitation When I am commanded to strike You need to know That you’re in for the fight of your life You will be shown How I've become.... Indestructible Determination that is incorruptible From the other side A terror to behold Annihilation will be unavoidable Every broken enemy will know That their opponent had to be invincible Take a last look around while you’re alive I’m an indestructible master of war I'm... Indestructible Determination that is incorruptible From the other side A terror to behold Annihilation will be unavoidable Every broken enemy will know That their opponent had to be invincible Take a last look around while you’re alive I am indestructible (indestructible) |

Dire Straits- Brothers In Arms
www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5JkHBC5lDs These mist covered mountains Are a home now for me But my home is the lowlands And always will be Some day youll return to Your valleys and your farms And youll no longer burn To be brothers in arms Through these fields of destruction Baptisms of fire Ive watched all your suffering As the battles raged higher And though they did hurt me so bad In the fear and alarm You did not desert me My brothers in arms Theres so many different worlds So many different suns And we have just one world But we live in different ones Now the suns gone to hell And the moons riding high Let me bid you farewell Every man has to die But its written in the starlight And every line on your palm Were fools to make war On our brothers in arms |

Citizen Soldier -- 3 Doors Down
Beyond the boundaries of your city's lights. Stand the heroes waiting for your cries. So many times you did not bring this on yourself. When the moment finally comes, I'll be there to help. And on that day, when you need your brothers and sisters to care. I'll be right here. [[Chorus]] Citizen soldiers. Holding the light for the ones that we guide from the dark of despair. Standing on guard for the ones that we've sheltered. We'll always be ready because we will always be there. When there're people crying in the streets. When they're starving for a meal to eat. When they simply need a place to make their beds. Right here underneath my wing, you can rest your head. On that day, when you need your brothers and sisters to care. I'll be right here. [[Chorus]] Hope and pray, that you never need me. The rest assured I will not let you down. I walk beside you, but you may not see me. The strongest among you may not wear a crown. On that day when you need your brothers and sisters to care. I'll be right here. On that day when you don't have strength for the burden you bear. I'll be right here. [[Chorus]] |

Indestructible Determination that is incorruptible From the other side A terror to behold Annihilation will be unavoidable Every broken enemy will know That their opponent had to be invincible Take a last look around while you're alive I'm an indestructible master of war Another reason Another cause for me to fight Another fuse uncovered Now, for me to light My dedication To all that I've sworn to protect I carry out my orders With not a regret A declaration Embedded deep under my skin A permanent reminder Of how we began No hesitation When I am commanded to strike You need to know That you're in for the fight of your life You will be shown How I've become.... Indestructible Determination that is incorruptible From the other side A terror to behold Annihilation will be unavoidable Every broken enemy will know That their opponent had to be invincible Take a last look around while you're alive I am indestructible (indestructible) Indestructible Determination that is incorruptible From the other side A terror to behold Annihilation will be unavoidable Every broken enemy will know That their opponent had to be invincible Take a last look around while you're alive I'm an indestructible master of war Another War Song is "Scream, Aim, FIre" By Bullet For MY Valentine Kill your enemies, My brothers dead around me, Wounds are hurting Death is creeping for me, Smoke is blinding Hearts are pounding Chaos soon ignites The call is made It's one for all Will I meet my maker [X3] Over The Top Over The Top Right Now It's Killing Time Over The Top Over The Top The Only Way Out Is To Die [X2] God Has Spoken Through His Conscience As I scream aim and fire The death toll grows higher JUMP! Fuck this battlefield, The bullets tear around me, Bodies falling, Voices calling for me, Limbs are flying, Men are crying, Such a hurtful sight, The call is made, It's one for all Take no prisoners [X3] Over The Top Over The Top Right Now It's Killing Time Over The Top Over The Top The Only Way Out Is To Die [X2] God Has Spoken Through His Conscience As I scream aim and fire The death toll grows higher [X2] SCREAM! AIM! FIRE! [Solo] [X3] Over The Top Over The Top Right Now It's Killing Time Over The Top Over The Top The Only Way Out Is To Die [X2] God Has Spoken Through His Conscience As I scream aim and fire The death toll grows higher SCREAM! AIM! FIRE! And a classic from Metallica "For Whom THe Bell Tools" Make his fight On the hill in the early day Constant chill deep inside Shouting gun On they run Through the endless grey On they fight For they're right Yes, but who's to say? For a hill men would kill Why? They do not know Stiffened wounds test their pride Men of five Still alive through the raging glow Gone insane From the pain that they surely know For whom the bell tolls Time marches on For whom the bell tolls Take a look To the sky Just before you die It's the last time he will Blackened roar Massive roar fills the crumbling sky Shattered goal Fills his soul with a ruthless cry Stranger now Are his eyes to this mystery He hears the silence so loud Crack of dawn All is gone Except the will to be Now they see what will be Blinded eyes to see For whom the bell tolls Time marches on For whom the bell tolls... |

Iron Maiden has done a LOT of war songs:
"These Colours Don't Run" It's the same in every country when you say you're leaving Left behind the loved ones waiting silent in the hall Where you're going lies adventure others only dream of Red and green light this is real and so you go to war For the passion, for the glory for the memories, for the money You're a soldier, for your country what's the difference, all the same Far away from the land of our birth We fly a flag in some foreign earth We sailed away like our fathers before These colours don't run, from cold bloody war There is no one that will save you going down in flames No surrender certain death you look in the eye On the shores of tyranny you crashed a human wave Paying for my freedom with your lonely unmarked graves For the passion, for the glory for the memories, for the money You're a soldier, for your country what's the difference, all the same Far away from the land of our birth We fly a flag in some foreign earth We sailed away like our fathers before These colours don't run, from cold bloody war SOLO Far away from the land of our birth We fly a flag in some foreign earth We sailed away like our fathers before These colours don't run, from cold bloody war Far away from the land of our birth We fly a flag in some foreign earth We sailed away like our fathers before These colours don't run, from cold bloody war These colours don't run, from cold bloody war |

Ghost of Freedom
Every time you think about it It tears you up inside You curse the day your mother told you, your father died Now you're always searching Searching for the reason why I've gone But I will always be here By your side, through the darkest night Here I'll stand on the firing line Here I'll walk through the field where I died I will fight and let the voice ring true I am the ghost Standing next to you Every night you go to sleep You pray the Lord my soul to keep You don't know I've not gone away You see I watch over fighting men So they can have peace again And maybe someday you will all be free Here I'll stand on the firing line Here I'll walk through the field where I died I will fight and let the voice ring true I am the ghost Standing next to you You speak to me And I feel your pride Assuring me I'll never die I write Mother... "He's here with me..." He's in our minds He's in our souls Of sacrifice his story's told He holds the flame of freedom for all to see Here we stand on the firing line Here I'll walk in the field where I fight I will fight of die for liberty With the ghost standing next to me Don't tread on me...live free or die!!! To our fallen brothers You died to keep us free To our fallen brothers Who gave us liberty!!! Ghost of Freedom |

Iron Maiden from 2006
Click to listen The Longest Day In the gloom the gathering storm abates In the ships gimlet eyes await The call to arms to hammer at the gates To blow them wide throw evil to its fate All summers long the drills to build the machine To turn men from flesh and blood to steel From paper soldiers to bodies on the beach From summer sands to armageddon's reach Overlord, your master not your god The enemy coast dawning grey with scud These wretched souls puking, shaking fear To take a bullet for those who sent them here The world's alight, the cliffs erupt in flame No escape, remorseless shrapnel rains Drowning men no chance for a warrior's fate A choking death enter hell's gate Sliding we go, only fear on our side To the edge of the wire, and we rush with the tide Oh the water is red, with the blood of the dead But I'm still alive, pray to God I survive How long on this longest day 'Til we finally make it through How long on this longest day 'Til we finally make it through How long on this longest day 'Til we finally make it through How long on this longest day 'Til we finally make it through The rising dead, faces bloated torn They are relieved, the living wait their turn Your number's up, the bullet's got your name You still go on, to hell and back again Valhalla waits, valkyries rise and fall The warrior tombs, lie open for us all A ghostly hand reaches through the veil Blood and sand, we will prevail Sliding we go, only fear on our side To the edge of the wire, and we rush with the tide Oh the water is red, with the blood of the dead But I'm still alive, pray to God I survive How long on this longest day 'Til we finally make it through How long on this longest day 'Til we finally make it through How long on this longest day 'Til we finally make it through How long on this longest day 'Til we finally make it through SOLO How long on this longest day 'Til we finally make it through How long on this longest day 'Til we finally make it through How long on this longest day 'Til we finally make it through How long on this longest day 'Til we finally make it through |

"Tailgunner" Trace your way back 50 years To the glow of Dresden - blood and tears In the black above by the cruel searchlight Men will die and men will fight - yeah| Who shot who and who fired first? Dripping death to whet the bloodthirst No radar lock on - skin and bone The bomber boys are going home chorus Climb into the sky never wonder why - Tailgunner You're a Tailgunner (repeat) Nail that fokker kill that son. Gonna blow your guts out with my gun The weather forecast's good for war Cologne and Frankfurt? Have some more| Tail end Charlie in the boiling sky The Enola Gay was my last try Now that this Tailgunner's gone No more bombers (just one big bomb) chorus |

Guns n Roses - Civil War
(of note is that while this sounds like your typical anti-Vietnam song, the US was not involved in any conflicts when this song was released... "What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach... So, you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it! Well, he gets it! N' I don't like it any more than you men." * Look at your young men fighting Look at your women crying Look at your young men dying The way they've always done before Look at the hate we're breeding Look at the fear we're feeding Look at the lives we're leading The way we've always done before My hands are tied The billions shift from side to side And the wars go on with brainwashed pride For the love of God and our human rights And all these things are swept aside By bloody hands time can't deny And are washed away by your genocide And history hides the lies of our civil wars D'you wear a black armband When they shot the man Who said "Peace could last forever" And in my first memories They shot Kennedy I went numb when I learned to see So I never fell for Vietnam We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all That you can't trust freedom When it's not in your hands When everybody's fightin' For their promised land And I don't need your civil war It feeds the rich while it buries the poor Your power hungry sellin' soldiers In a human grocery store Ain't that fresh I don't need your civil war Look at the shoes your filling Look at the blood we're spilling Look at the world we're killing The way we've always done before Look in the doubt we've wallowed Look at the leaders we've followed Look at the lies we've swallowed And I don't want to hear no more My hands are tied For all I've seen has changed my mind But still the wars go on as the years go by With no love of God or human rights 'Cause all these dreams are swept aside By bloody hands of the hypnotized Who carry the cross of homicide And history bears the scars of our civil wars "WE PRACTICE SELECTIVE ANNIHILATION OF MAYORS AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS FOR EXAMPLE TO CREATE A VACUUM THEN WE FILL THAT VACUUM AS POPULAR WAR ADVANCES PEACE IS CLOSER" ** I don't need your civil war It feeds the rich while it buries the poor Your power hungry sellin' soldiers In a human grocery store Ain't that fresh And I don't need your civil war I don't need your civil war I don't need your civil war Your power hungry sellin' soldiers In a human grocery store Ain't that fresh I don't need your civil war I don't need one more war I don't need one more war Whaz so civil 'bout war anyway?" |

Avenged Sevenfold - Critical Acclaim
Shh... quiet, you might piss somebody off Like me motherfucker, you've been at it for too long While you feed off others insecurities You stand in front of me and bite the hand that feeds (Self-righteousness is wearing thin) Lies inside your head your bestfriend (Heart bleeds but not for fellow man) Broken glass, your fake reflection I've had enough its time for something real Don't respect the words you're speaking Gone too far, a clone So how does it feel to know that someones kid in the heart of america Has blood on their hands, fighting to defend your rights So you can maintain the lifestyle that insults his family's existance Well, where I'm from we have a special salute we aim high in the air Towards all those pompous assholes who spend their days pointing fingers Fuck you Shh... quiet, you might piss somebody off Like the heartbeat of this country when antagonized too long I'll be damned if you count me in as part of your generous hypocrisy Collecting enemies (Tabloid gossip queen, worthless man) There's no need for us to bury you (Selfish agenda, once again) Right this way, you've dug your own grave I've had enough its time for something real Don't respect the words you're speaking Gone too far, a clone All the way from the east to the west We've got this high society looking down on this very foundation Constantly reminding us that our actions are the cause of all their problems Pointing the fingers in every direction Blaming their own nation for who wins elections They've never contributed a fucking thing to the country they love to criticize Excuse the obscene, ignore the untrue Depictions we see, try and get through Admitting mistakes can't hurt I'm not the last but I sure ain't the first Shh be quiet, you might piss somebody off (Self-righteousness is wearing thin) Lies inside your head your bestfriend (Heart bleeds but not for fellow man) Broken glass, your fake reflection I've had enough its time for something real Don't respect these words you speak You've gone too far, a clone |

Too many to list, lots of death metal and black metal are about war. Also about half of all Slayer songs are about war. If you like music about war listen to more metal.

Amon Amarth - Gods of War Arise
Darkness flees the rising sun The village lies ahead It will wake to a new day soon Soon they'll all be dead We came in cover of moonless night Fifty men at arms Now at first morning light The church bell sounds the alarm Sacrifice to Gods of old Bleed them of their lives Fresh blood on our swords Gods of war arise Sacrifice to Gods of old Bleed them of their lives Fresh blood on our swords Gods of war arise Hear the tortured screams Shattering the air They awake from soothing dreams Into their worst nightmare Fire sweeps their homes They feel the dragon's breath Consuming and destructive flames Agonising death Some seek shelter in the church A refuge for those with faith But we know how to smoke them out A pyre will be raised But those who choose to stand and fight Will die with dignity For the unfortunate few who survive Waits a life in slavery The day draws to an end The night comes dark and cold We return to our ships With silver, slaves and gold We gave them agony As they fell and die The Gods have granted victory For our sacrifice |

Mark Schultz "Letters from War"
She walked to the mailbox On that bright summers day Found a letter from her son In a war far away He spoke of the weather And good friends that he'd made Said I'd been thinking 'bout dad And the life that he had Thats why I'm here today And that the end he said You are what I'm fighting for It was the first of the letters from war She started writing You're good and you're brave What a father that you'll be someday make it home make it safe She wrote every night as she prayed Late in December A day she'll not forget Oh her tears stained the paper With every word that she read It said "I was up on a hill I was out there alone When the shots all rang out And bombs were exploding And thats when I saw him He came back for me And though he was captured A man set me free And that man was your son He asked me to write to you I told him i would, oh I swore" It was the last of the letters from war And she prayed he was living Kept on believing And wrote every night just to say You are good And you're brave what a father that you'll be someday Make it home Make it safe Still she kept writing each day Then two years later Autumn leaves all around A car pulled in the driveway And she fell to the ground And out stepped a captain Where her boy used to stand He said "mom I'm following orders From all of your letters And I've come home again", He ran into hold her And dropped all his bags on the floor Holding all of her letters from war Bring him home Bring him home Bring him home Charlie Daniels Band "Still in Saigon" Got on a plane in 'Frisco And got off in Vietnam I walked into a different world The past forever gone I could have gone to Canada Or I could have stayed in school But I was brought up differently I couldn't break the rules Thirteen months and fifteen days The last ones were the worst One minute I'd kneel down and pray And the next I'd stand and curse No place to run to Where I did not feel that war When I got home I stayed alone And checked behind each door Cuz I'm still in Saigon Still in Saigon I am still in Saigon In my mind The ground at home was covered in snow And I was covered in sweat My younger brother calls me a killer And my daddy calls me a vet Everybody says I'm someone else And I'm sick and there's no cure Damned if I know who I am There was only one place I was sure When i was still in Saigon Still in saigon I am still in saigon In my mind Every summer when it rains I smell the jungle, I hear the planes I can't tell no one, I feel ashamed Afraid some day I'll go insane That's been ten long years ago And time has gone on by Now and then I catch myself Eyes searching through the sky All the sounds of long ago Will be forever in my head Mingled with the wounded cries And the silence of the dead 'Cuz I'm still in Saigon Still in Saigon I am still in Saigon In my mind I am still in Saigon I am still in Saigon Yes, I'm still in Saigon In my mind |

metallica don't tread on me
don't tread on Me. said Don't tread on Me. Liberty or death, what we so proudly hail once you provoke her, rattling of her tail never begins it, never, but once engaged... never surrenders, showing the fangs of rage said don't tread on me so be it threaten no more to secure peace is to prepare for war so be it settle the score touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore... don't tread on me love it or leave it, she with the deadly bite quick is the blue tongue, forked as a lightning strike shining with brightness, always on surveillance the eyes they never close, emblem of vigilance ooh, No, No, No. said don't tread on me so be it threaten no more to secure peace is to prepare for war so be it settle the score touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore... don't tread on me so be it threaten no more to secure peace is to prepare for war liberty or death, what we so proudly hail once you provoke her, rattling of her tail so be it threaten no more to secure peace is to prepare for war so be it settle the score touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore... don't tread on me |

Dimmu Borgir
Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse The battle raged on and on Fuelled by the venom of hatred for man Consistently, without the eyes to see By those who revel in sewer equally We, the prosperity of the future seal Cloaked by the thunders of the north wind Born to capture the essence of The trails of our kind Zero tolerance must be issued forth Behind the enemy's line So it shall be written And so it shall be done [repeat 1st and 2nd verse] Discover and conceive the secret wealth And pass it unto your breed Become your own congregation Measure the sovereignty of it's invigoration We, who not deny the animal of our nature We, who yearn to preserve our liberation We, who face darkness in our hearts with a solemn fire We, who aspire to the truth and pursue it's strength Are we not the undisputed prodigy of warfare Fearing all the mediocrity that they possess Should we not hunt the bastards down with our might Reinforce and claim the throne that is rightfully ours Consider the god we could be without the grace Once and for all Diminish the sub principle and leave it's toxic trace Once and for all If you want to see the video just youtube it. |

AMON AMARTH
Valhall Awaits Me Blood gushes from the wound The cut is wide and deep And before I turn around He falls to his knees A clear song rings in the blade When steel meets hardened steel. I hear the sound of wood that breaks, A swords cuts through my shield. I drop the shield and grab my axe, A weapon in each fist. The first blow makes the helmet crack, The axe cut to the teeth. I rip the axe from the head, covered in blood and brains. Leave the body lying dead, Ready to strike again. My sword cuts through clothes and skin, Like a hot knife cuts through snow. I smile as the bastard screams, when I twist my sword. Sword in my hand, Axe on my side. Valhall awaits me, Soon I will die. Bear skin on my back, Wolf jaw on my head. Valhall awaits me when I'm dead. I raise my axe above my head, My eyes stare in furious rage. Yet more blood will be shed, This is a victorious day! Blood gushes from the wound, The cut is wide and deep. As I turn around, I fall to my knees. Sword in my hand, Axe on my side. Valhall awaits me, Soon I will die. Bear skin on my back, Wolf jaw on my head. Valhall awaits me when I'm dead. Valhall Awaits Me With Oden On Our Side Finally the storm arrives Out wait is at an end Under dark winter skies We make our final stand For each of us, there are four of them It matters not to us We won't leave this field in shame We are here to crush! [x2] Futile to resist You know why we have come Futile to resist The battle is already won! Our hearts are full of pounding rage Our mind hard as steel Right before the dying day We will have you kneel The snow turns red from all the blood Severed limbs and heads A sacrifice to one-eyed God He will claim the dead! Under the winter skies We stand glorious! And with Oden on our side We are victorious! No retreat, no remorse Victory will be ours Blood on steel, sacrifice Victory will be ours Under the winter skies We stand glorious! And with Oden on our side We are victorious! [x2] Futile to resist You know why we have come Futile to resist The battle is already won! With Oden on Our Side Cry Of The Black Birds Raise your swords up high! See the black birds fly! Let them hear your rage! Show no fear! Attack! Charge your horses across the fields Together we ride into destiny Have no fear of death, when it's your time Oden will bring us home when we die! The ground trembles under us As we make our thunder charge The pounding hooves strikes blinding fear Into their heart Our helmets shine in the sun As we near their wall of shields Some of them turn and run When they hear our frenzied screams Draw your swords to strike Hear the Black Birds cry! Let them feel your hate! Show no fear! (Attack! Attack! Attack! Attack!) Charge your horses across the fields Together we ride into destiny Have no fear of death, when it's your time Oden will bring us home when we die! The enemies are in disarray Ride them down as they run Send them to their violent graves, Don't spare anyone Dead and wounded lie all around, See the pain in their eyes Over the field an eerie sound, As we hear the ravens' cry Cry Of the Blackbirds headbang.gifheadbang.gifheadbang.gifheadbang.gifheadbang.gifheadbang.gif |

my little armalite...
(Armalite Firing In Background) Chorus: And it's down along the Falls Road that's where I long to be Lying in the dark with the Provo company A comrade on me left ai another one on me right And a clip of ammunition for me little Armalite! I was stopped by a soldier he said "you are a swine" He hit me with his rifle and he kicked me in the groin I begged and I pleaded oh my manners were polite but all the time I'm thinking of me little Armalite! Chorus: And it's down in the Bogside that's were I long to be Lying in the dark with the Provo company A comrade on me left and another one on me right And a clip of ammunition for me little Armalite! Well this brave RUC man came marching up our street 600 British soldiers he had lined up at his feet, Come out ya cowardly Fenians come on out and fight he cried I'm only joking, when he heard the Armalite! Chorus: And its down in Bellaghy that's where i long to be lying in the dark with the provo company a comrade on me left and another one on me right and a clip of ammunition for me little Armalite! Well the army came to visit me 'twas in the early hours With saracens and saladins and ferret armoured cars, They thought they had me cornered but I gave them all a fright With the armourpiercing bullets of me little Armalite! Chorus: And it's down in The New Lodge that's were I long to be Lying in the dark with the Provo company A comrade on me left and another one on me right And a clip of ammunition for me little Armalite! Well when premier came to Belfast says he the battles won The generals they have told him we've got them on the run, But corporals and privates while on patrol at night They remember Narrow Water and the bloody Armalite! Chorus: And it's down in Crossmaglen that's were I long to be Lying in the dark with the Provo company A comrade on me left and another one on me right And a clip of ammunition for me little Armalite! roland the headless thompson gunner.... Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner by Warren Zevon Roand was a warrior from the Land of the Midnight Sun With a Thompson gun for hire, fighting to be done The deal was made in Denmark on a dark and stormy day So he set out for Biafra to join the bloody fray Through sixty-six and seven they fought the Congo war Fingers on their triggers, knee-deep in gore For days and nights they battled the Bantu to their knees They killed to earn their living and to help out the Congolese Roland the Thompson gunner... Roland the Thompson gunner... His comrades fought beside him - Van Owen and the rest But of all the Thompson gunners Roland was the best So the CIA decided they wanted Roland dead That son-of-a-bitch Van Owen blew off Roland's head Chorus: Harmony: Roland the headless Thompson gunner Roland the headless Thompson gunner (Time, time, time For another peaceful war Norway's bravest son But time stands still for Roland 'Til he evens up the score) They can still see his headless body stalking through the night In the muzzle flash of Roland's Thompson gun In the muzzle flash of Roland's Thompson gun Roland searched the continent for the man who'd done him in He found him in Mombassa in a barroom drinking gin Roland aimed his Thompson gun - he didn't say a word But he blew Van Owen's body from there to Johannesburg Roland the headless Thompson gunner... Roland the headless Thompson gunner... Roland the headless Thompson gunner... The eternal Thompson gunner, still wandering through the night Now it's ten years later but he still keeps up the fight In Ireland, in Lebanon, in Palestine and Berkeley Patty Hearst heard the burst of Roland's Thompson gun And bought it |

I don't really like Big & Rich that much (dumbest band name ever) but "The 8th of November" is tremendous.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnsW82BFjsM Said goodbye to his mamma As he left South Dakota To fight for the Red, White, and Blue. He was nineteen and green with a new M-16 Just doing what he had to do. He was dropped in the jungle Where the choppers would rumble With the smell of napalm in the air. And the sergeant said, "Look up ahead" Like a dark, evil cloud 1,200 came down on him and 29 more. They fought for their lives But most of them died In the 173rd Airborne. (Chorus) On the 8th of November, The angels were crying As they carried his brothers away. With the fire raining down And the Hell all around There were few men left standing that day. Saw the eagle fly, Through a clear, blue sky 1965, the 8th of November. Now he's fifty-eight And his ponytail's grey But the battle still plays in his head. He limps when he walks, But he's strong when he talks About the shrapnel they left in his leg. He puts on a grey suit Over his Airborne tattoo And He ties it on one time a year And remembers the fallen, As he orders a tall one And swallows it down with his tears. (Chorus) On the 8th of November, The angels were crying As they carried his brothers away. With the fire raining down And the Hell all around There were few men left standing that day. Saw the eagle fly, Through a clear, blue sky 1965, the 8th of November. Saw the eagle fly, Through a clear, blue sky 1965. March of Cambreadth
MARCH OF CAMBREADTH (Author: Heather Alexander Axes flash, broadswords swing Shining armors’ piercing ring Horses run with polished shield Fight those bastards ‘til they yield Midnight mare, blood red roan Fight to keep this land your own Sound the horn and call the cry How many of them can we make die? Follow orders as you’re told Make their yellow blood run cold Fight until you die or drop A force like ours is hard to stop Close your mind to stress and pain Fight ‘til you’re no longer sane Let not one damn cur pass by How many of them can we make die? Guard your women and children well Send these bastards back to Hell We’ll teach them the ways of war And they won’t come here anymore Use your shield and use your head Fight ‘til everyone is dead Raise the flag up to the sky How many of them can we make die? Dawn has broke, the time has come Move your feet to the marching drum We’ll win the war and pay the toll Fight as one in heart and soul Midnight mare and blood red roan Fight to keep this land your own Sound the horn and call the cry How many of them can we make die? Axes flash, broadswords swing Shining armors’ piercing ring Horses run with polished shield Fight those bastards ‘til they yield Midnight mare and blood red roan Fight to keep this land your own Sound the horn and call the cry How many of them can we make die? When the Tigers Broke Free
It was just before dawn One miserable morning in black 'forty four. When the forward commander Was told to sit tight When he asked that his men be withdrawn. And the Generals gave thanks As the other ranks held back The enemy tanks for a while. And the Anzio bridgehead Was held for the price Of a few hundred ordinary lives. And kind old King George Sent Mother a note When he heard that father was gone. It was, I recall, In the form of a scroll, With gold leaf and all. And I found it one day In a drawer of old photographs, hidden away. And my eyes still grow damp to remember His Majesty signed With his own rubber stamp. It was dark all around. There was frost in the ground When the tigers broke free. And no one survived From the Royal Fusiliers Company C. They were all left behind, Most of them dead, The rest of them dying. And that's how the High Command Took my daddy from me. Video |

The Foggy Dew
As down the glen one Easter morn To a city fair rode I, There armed lines of marching men In squadrons passed me by. No pipe did hum, no battle drum Did sound its loud tattoo But the Angelus' bells o'er the Liffey swells Rang out in the foggy dew. Right proudly high in Dublin town Hung they out a flag of war. 'Twas better to die 'neath an Irish sky Than at Suvla or Sud el Bar. And from the plains of Royal Meath Strong men came hurrying through; While Brittania's Huns with their long-range guns Sailed in through the foggy dew. The bravest fell, and the requiem bell Rang mournfully and clear For those who died that Easter-tide In the springing of the year. While the world did gaze with deep amaze At those fearless men but few Who bore the fight that freedom's light Might shine through the foggy dew. And back through the glen I rode again And my heart with grief was sore For I parted then with valiant men Whom I never shall see more But to and fro In my dreams I go And I kneel and pray for you For slavery fled Oh, glorious dead When you fell in the foggy dew |

Yeah, you've been alone I've been gone for far too long But with all that we've been through After all this time I'm coming home to you Never let it show The pain I've grown to know 'Cause with all these things we do It don't matter when I'm coming home to you I reach towards the sky I've said my goodbyes My heart's always with you now I won't question why so many have died My prayers have made it through yeah 'Cause with all these things we do It don't matter when I'm coming home to you Letters keep me warm Helped me through the storm But with all that we've been through After all this time I'm coming home to you I reach towards the sky I've said my goodbyes My heart's always with you now I won't question why so many have died My prayers have made it through yeah 'Cause with all these things we do It don't matter when I'm coming home to you I've always been true I've waited so long just to come hold you I'm making it through It's been far too long, we've proven our love over time's so strong, in all that we do The stars in the night, they lend me their light to bring me closer to heaven with you (Bring me closer) But with all that we've been through After all this time I'm coming home to you I reach towards the sky I've said my goodbyes My heart's always with you now I won't question why so many have died My prayers have made it through yeah 'Cause with all these things we do It don't matter when I'm coming home to you And with all that we've been through After all this time I'm coming home to you |

White cliffs of dover with spitfire video White cliffs of Dover - Vera Lynn Therell be bluebirds over The white cliffs of Dover Tomorrow Just you wait and see I'll never forget the people I met Braving those angry skies I remember well as the shadows fell The light of hope in their eyes And though I'm far away I still can hear them say Bombs up... But when the dawn comes up Therell be bluebirds over The white cliffs of Dover Tomorrow Just you wait and see Therell be love and laughter And peace ever after Tomorrow When the world is free The shepherd will tend his sheep The valley will bloom again And Jimmy will go to sleep In his own little room again Therell be bluebirds over The white cliffs of Dover Tomorrow Just you wait and see Therell be bluebirds over The white cliffs of Dover Tomorrow Just you wait and see... My Grandfather loved it and he was there. Cheers Taffy |

Green Fields of France
A memorial to the Great War (WW1) By John McDermont Well, how do you do, Private William McBride Do you mind if I sit down here by your graveside? And rest for awhile in the warm summer sun, I've been walking all day, and I'm nearly done. And I see by your gravestone you were only 19 When you joined the glorious fallen in 1916, Well, I hope you died quick and I hope you died clean Or, Willie McBride, was it slow and obscene? Did they Beat the drum slowly, did the play the pipes lowly? Did the rifles fir o'er you as they lowered you down? Did the bugles sound The Last Post in chorus? Did the pipes play the Flowers of the Forest? And did you leave a wife or a sweetheart behind In some loyal heart is your memory enshrined? And, though you died back in 1916, To that loyal heart are you forever 19? Or are you a stranger without even a name, Forever enshrined behind some glass pane, In an old photograph, torn and tattered and stained, And fading to yellow in a brown leather frame? The sun's shining down on these green fields of France; The warm wind blows gently, and the red poppies dance. The trenches have vanished long under the plow; No gas and no barbed wire, no guns firing now. But here in this graveyard that's still No Man's Land The countless white crosses in mute witness stand To man's blind indifference to his fellow man. And a whole generation who were butchered and damned. And I can't help but wonder, no Willie McBride, Do all those who lie here know why they died? Did you really believe them when they told you "The Cause?" Did you really believe that this war would end wars? Well the suffering, the sorrow, the glory, the shame The killing, the dying, it was all done in vain, For Willie McBride, it all happened again, And again, and again, and again, and again Video Pte. William McBride served in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, and was K.I.A in 1916 during the Somme Offensive |
