The one joy of attending Texas A&M is seldom having to deal with libtard professors trying to push their marxist ideology without fear of of significant backlash from the overwhelmingly conservative student body. Unfortunately this semester I find myself taking courses at a local community college where that is not the case...

I normally keep a low profile in class and keep my mouth shut while listening to the inane ramblings of my fellow classmates. Today was different. In my english class assignment the focus of discussion was the role of religion in society and the importance of "separation of church and state." After drudgingly listening to every student affirm the importance of this false notion I was finally left to explain the facts and make clear that no where in the constitution do those words appear anywhere. I reminded them the first amendment granted freedom of religion and not freedom from religion - that there desire to remove every instance of faith from government were both entirely self serving and in violation of the Judeo Christian values this country was founded upon.

Did my little speech change any of their minds? Probably not, but it helped vent some of my frustration. Perhaps not enough.

As soon as I was finished my professor held up a DVD case and said we would be watching this movie next class on wednesday. It was Michael motherfucking Moore's new film 'SiCKO'. I asked "Are you serious?" and she said "Yes!" followed by a bunch of bull shit about the facts in the 'documentary' and about how fucking great Moore is. I couldn't believe it. I knew she was a libtard from the reaction the moment I brought in my Obango socialist poster for a project early on. She has always interjected her liberal views in every topic of class discussion. Fine, whatever.. but this?

I've got many more important things to do than pay money to sit in class and be indoctrinated by fucking ass face michael moore. Then again, she is handing back our last graded papers and I really want to see mine.. I wrote about the need for concealed carry to be allowed on campus - can't wait to hear what she thought about that one! I'd also be interested in bringing along some rebuttals to this film which I haven't actually seen yet (saw Bowling for Columbine and that was fucking stupid enough.) I just know I will be screaming profanities and probably try to murder the projector screen if I have to sit through this movie. Then again, I have a duty to educate the sheeple though they are mostly lost already. I can't decide. What should I do Arfcom?

EDIT: ADDED POLL. **= most likely will not have time in class to debate the film.

On the one hand...'know thy enemy'.

On the other? If you do well tearing it apart; you'll likely break through to some young, liberal minds.

do some research on the real health care in cuba.

not the one micheal moore portrays in the film where their national healthcare is excellent and cheap.

well it is excellent and cheap but only for visitors and government officials, everyone else doesn't get access to it

there's a good website that covers it, i'll try to find it

My mom had to wait in an EMERGENCY room for OVER an hour just to get to the triage nurse for initial assessment, then for almost 6 HOURS before she was finally examined.

She was having quite serious chest pains, thankfully it was just some stretched muscles in her chest, not anything to do with her heart, but WHAT THE FUCK

She got in at 5:30 and was finally released at about 1:30-2:00 AM or so

Yeah, great system we have here folks! "universal" health care is awesome!

I've never understood refusing to listen to opposing arguments . Listening and debating doesn't weaken your argument. The point is to approach it as an academic study. Usually it is the religious crowd who refuses to even academically consider opposing views in favor of blind faith.

I've only skimmed it, but Beck's "Arguing With Idiots" does address this movie.

There's nothing wrong with hearing opposing arguments, but there is something wrong with a college professor wasting my money forcing me to watch a Michael Moore movie. When I pay for a college course, I am paying for the expertise the professor has gained through decades of study and work in their subject area (and the degree). I am not paying to hear an educator fawn over the unqualified Michael Moore and teach baseless lies. Magical purple unicorns don't exist any more than successful utopian communism, and a college shouldn't waste my money by teaching either as if they were real.

Don't know if that's the OP's gripe, but it's certainly mine.

Exactly. I wouldn't have a problem if the class were provided counter arguments to the film and allowed to debate the merits of each. For instance, the time in highschool had us view 'An Inconvenient Truth'. But that's not what this is about. It's just my libtard professor taking an opportunity to further project her own views without allowing any means to counteract them. It's a two hour film, for a 90 minute class. There is no possible way to voice any discontent of the content thereoff. I look at it as 90 minutes better spent surfing Arfcom, or watching porn

college is full of libtards pushing their own agenda who love to waste your money. just in case you hadn't realized. over half the core classes are pure bullshit these days. my idea of college is attending fact based lectures that are directly related to your area of study. this liberal arts slant that college has taken is sickening. make the most of it and perform a critical review of the movie.

Thank you for this. Here in the states, any chest pain/signs of heart attack = INSTANT EKG. You get to go ahead of the kid with the broken arm screaming in pain, you pass by ALL THOSE PEOPLE and get an EKG done within minutes. There is a reason for this, and it would be horrible to let you wait 6 hours so you hopefully die and no longer require the doctors STATES precious time...

Hasn't Moore actually admitted he is a Communist or at least anti-capitalist? I would swing by the Dean's office and lodge a protest/complaint against the sub-par academic environment this leftist is creating.

First day of English 101 my professor said we would be watching this movie sometime this term. I thought what the heck does that have to do with english composition, shes a libtard feminist lesbian also. This is the reason I hated school and tried to avoid going for so long (25 now) even public high school was liberal indoctrination camp with teachers saying things like "bush isn't my president" or "stole the election". You don't want to make your opinion known or they will ostracize you and your grade will reflect it. So far we haven't had to watch that fat asses film so thank god.

Do you have to write anything regarding the video or is it a big fucking baby sitting session?

If you must show up, bring a freaking PSP/Gameboy, or some good games for your phone. Play them all class with an earbud in your ear if you are forced to be there.

I'd take the fucking F, better yet I would of dropped the class in the first week after learning her slant. Might even say her opinion stinks worse than her armpit hair.

Nope. Just show up watch the video and be brainwashed. *Attendance counts towards my final grade.*

ETA: I have no freakin clue what this has got to do with Composition II, but neither did I the last class.. or the one before that. So far we have written two papers with one more on a completely unrelated subject due later this month.

Had an asshole instructor for a criminal justice class that did that.

I got high B's or low A's on every damned test, got a B on the term paper. But because of attendance he marked me down to like a D-.

I didn't have the balls to take all my test scores and term paper to the dean to petition for a better grade in the class. Was too young and just wanted to be done with it. That asshole instructor could of put ANYTHING on the test from his lectures even if it was so absurd as to simply have quotes that reflect something so stupid as "the sky is not blue but is red" to demonstrate people were in class. But nope, it was possible to pass his nonsense exams by simply reading the damned book and it totally negated any reason what so ever to come to class and listen to his lectures.

These assholes simply cannot get over themselves. Learned the lesson from that course that if the instructor says that shit early on during the first day, I drop the course and tell them precisely why. College isn't for baby sitting and forcing people to work together in groups to drag the weaker idiot through the course. If you can do the work away from the institution with your family life and work life. The instructor needs to get the fuck over themselves and the notion that their "teaching" is all important considering a student is passing despite missing the classes.

My suggestion, wear the most offensive Michael Moore is Rosie O'donnel's lesbian bulldyke lover shirt you can find. Maybe a Rush is Right hat as well.

Then turn your desk around and face the opposite direction from the monitor and catch some sleep.

one of the most important aspects of college is to be exposed to perspectives, many of which are going to be different from your own. developing critical thinking skills revolves around your ability to entertain a perspective without agreeing with it, as twain put it. in that light, watching those kinds of films is absolutely vital for intellectual development.

IOW, "see no evil" is fine for kids, but we adults have an absolute responsibility not only to look at other perspectives, but also to figure out if the other guy actually has something valid to say.

if you never seriously challenge your own perspective, you're never going to get any better.

Based on certain aspects of your logic (or lack there of) in your argument, I'm not sure where to start, but will keep it short. Heaven forbid you are exposed to something you don't agree with. The only way to learn, and be capable of forming coherent logic and not circular logic, is to take in any and ALL information or viewpoints for a given subject. Doing so will allow you, with confidence, to debate at length your position on certain issues. Why would you want to neglect your own intellect by sticking your head in the sand simply because you don't agree with another viewpoint? Fine, don't watch the film and change your opinion, no one is asking you to do so––I sure as hell don't ask that of you. I think Moore is a genius at taking advantage of a downward situation and telling the public what they want to hear in order to make money using a system he doesn't care for... BUT at least you would have seen another view to the discussion, thereby allowing you more of a position IN the discussion.

Being closed minded only closes doors on yourself. The day you feel as though you have nothing to learn from others is the day you truly know nothing.

Thanks and Gig Em.

Allowing a liberal marxist to attempt and indoctrinate doesn't mean you're being "open minded". There is NO NEED to be "open minded" when it comes to a leftist. Their goal is to DESTROY OUR way of life. Their goal is to impose their populist, collective, liberal SHIT IDEAS, POLICIES, and LAWS on US and our way of life.

Do you really expect me to sit and listen to Reid and Pelosi explain their health care bullshit to me? Really? You think I'll learn something or gain a new insight into the leftist mind and see that I was wrong to not want to listen to their "different ideas"?

I will not legitimize their radical view of the world by even allowing them the opportunity to speak. Their unmitigated BULLSHIT is NOT worthy of being given the same legitimacy as the opinion of even a third grade child. For them, it isn't about new ideas, different views, or open minds. It's about imposing their will on the people of America, and by force if necessary.

To the OP, I'd get my paper, see my grade, and walk the fuck out. If she doesn't pass them out until after the brainwashing, then walk the fuck right there. How much impact will missing this one day have on your grade? If it's a lot, go to the dean and ask him why you are paying to be forced to watch a fucking propaganda piece and essentially being held hostage because she counts attendance toward your grade. FUCK HER.

I can understand watching the Michael Moore movie in composition if you have to write a paper on it after, since you don't I would complain a lot, and to everyone above the professor.

way back when I took Comp 1 I had to watch bowling for columbine, we were to write an analytical paper on the movie. while everyone in class wrote things about how guns were evil and numbers and what not I wrote about his presentation of the "facts" and the fallacies of writing. (juxtaposition, hasty generalizations etc) through meticulous notes and watching the movie multiple times I had a solid paper basically tearing his movie apart from the standpoint of it not being a properly synthesized argumentative theses.

I passed that class. first English class I have ever passed. if you get the chance to write a paper do it. analyze what hes saying and how he jumps from one fact to a reason, you will find there is no support to make the connections at all, mistakes in writing that have no place in any academic league.

Since it's an English class, carefully listen to Moore's dialog and point out all his 1st grade grammar mistakes.

The ONLY people I know that claim all viewpoints deserve listening to, are those with viewpoints so distorted, it's the only way they can get anybody to listen to them.

Waste your time listening to a known bullshit artist if you want to. It's your grade.

I'd attend class, make sure my presence was noted, then get up and walk out before the movie, telling her I had no intention of wasting my time listening to lies. If my grade suffered in any way shape or form, I'd follow the campus grievance procedure to the very end, and if I still didn't get justice, I am restricted by this website's code of conduct regulations from discussing additional escalation.

I'm sorry but I had to laugh. But I really do feel your pain!!

What exactly are you complaining about?

Did your mother receive timely care? YES. It's 7 hours, buttercup. Suck it the fuck up.

I'm sure that there is a FAQ check out there on the lies in this 'documentary'.
Print out copies as handouts in the class.
Be prepared to point each flaw out as it appears in the documentary.

Facts > libtard lies.

+1 It's not like this is poly sci or film making class. Not only is your prof an idiot, but she's too fucking lazy to actually teach.

Showing "Sicko" in English class makes about as much sense as me showing "Red Dawn" to my music apprec. class.

In my english class assignment the focus of discussion was the role of religion in society and the importance of "separation of church and state." After drudgingly listening to every student affirm the importance of this false notion I was finally left to explain the facts and make clear that no where in the constitution do those words appear anywhere. separation of church and state is to keep the government out of the church, not the other way around.

There is no such thing as separation of church and state. Stop repeating that argument.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances"

ETA but yes you are correct it states what the government cannot do.

Number of people who have read Marx's Communist manifesto.

me
William F. Buckley.
Milton Friedman.
Ronald Reagan.

Watch the film. you can't rebut the liberals nonsense if you don't know what they are on about.

Yes, I believe it was during an interview on a private jet while winging to Cannes to have his fat ass kissed by a bunch of liberal synchophants.

True. Never said I didn't want to do it....it would just be kind of difficult to make it fit into my curriculum. Maybe during my unit on nationalism though...Hmmmm.......

OP. To sort of tag on another post above; I'd show up and watch it. Does it belong in English class? No. But you do belong in class. Just use it as fuel for the fire later on. I also agree with the "know thy enemy" logic. I had to read the "Communist Manifesto" in college. You can still find something interesting while not agreeing with it.

Ok so this point has come up several times now and I should have addressed it the first time around. For the most part, I agree entirely. I've always been one to try and understand the opposing logic. I usually facepalm every time a libtard refuses any bit of information because it came from Fox or just starts screaming "SHUTUP SHUTUP SHUTUP" whenever you try and explain the facts. I don't want to be like that, so I choose not to be.

To be honest I spend considerable amount of time browsing through all the rage posts on DU and other liberal websites just to try and understand their issues on various topics. Hell, the first time I posted in GD I was even accused of being a DU troll. Point is, I expose myself to plenty of the opposite side - perhaps more than I should. Most times I can only take so much of their absolute bullshit before loosing complete faith in humanity, but I force myself to do it anyway.

That's what makes us, us. And them, them. We listen to the arguments both ways, look at the facts, and then use our own minds to form an opinion. They blindly follow the leader whoever that may be and wherever they might go despite whatever truth is in their way.

So, I can go see this movie on a personal basis and better myself for it. No argument there. But again, that's not the issue at stake. Rather, it's being forced to do so, for no other reason than because it fits my professors own agenda.

Watch the movie before hand and take notes. Go through all the bullshit, do research on said bullshit, and take a full arsenal of facts so that when you watch it in class you are fully prepared to rebuke all of the idiots claims.

On top of that, I would also bitch to her boss and bosses boss about why the fuck you are paying to watch a movie in a Comp class, that is, if she doesn't have a valid writing assignment for it afterwards where you can tear it apart too.

Will it affect your grade if you don't watch the movie?

Dude, you cannot grow without being challenged.

Watch Sicko on your own before the class and see what it has to say. Review the information presented and have some facts and talking points ready for your class viewing.

Wait, what the fuck? You are going to be watching Sicko in English class?

I'd be talking with the Dean if there is no reasonable application of the film to the subject you are PAYING to be learning about.

If I don't show up for class? Yes. If I show up and start reading Arguing With Idiots? Don't know...

Don't be a bitch, just fo

Sit though it and participate in the debate after the movie. I saw Sicko on PPV with my mom, it was terrible and he idolizes Hillary in the film.

I probably agreed with two things he said in the film. Prescriptions cost too much and we need reform. But I do not agree with the way he wants to do it.

Blinn? What class, prof?

There's a lot of young, big-city, intellectual wanna-be profs at that school.
