A while back I saw a pix of a ar-15 with a very effective camo job. Big vertical bars broken up by blacks stripes. Tonight while looking as some snake pix with my son, I realize that the camo patterns that work are very much like the camo patterns on snakes. Please look at this pix. http://gallery.pethobbyist.com/index.pl?photo=58831 even tho the snake has a lot of white on it, and is on green background. the outline of the snake shure is broken up. what are your thoughts. Thanks, Badredfish [devil]

Does an AR have to be as crooked as the snake too? [BD] Serioisly that's pretty effective, hard to mess with mother nature.

Hey Troy, That is the pix of the camo that I was refering to in my first post of this thread. Thanks for posting it. The web site list gives a lot more detail about camo. Badredfish [devil]

those are some good patterns. if only they'd get some high-contrast stuff going for USGI BDU patterns so that they can actually break up your pattern somewhat well.

Nice pic there Troy. That gun would disappear at any distance at all. The one thing I see that sticks out like a sore thumb however is the mag. You wouldn't think it would make that much difference but it does. Cover the mag with your finger and now look at the gun....much better!

You know what they say ... ignorance of the rules/laws doesn't make one exempt IBTL btw, I caught that camo article in another related thread (posted by Troy there as well), and it really made me rethink everything I *thought* I knew about camoflague. It's an excellent read; very insightful. Edited to add: I hate marpat, btw. Not because it has anything to do with the Marines, it's just I think the pixelated digital design looks like shit.

Exactly...I've painted my carbine a few times already, and eventually stripped it all off and went back to black. If I were to ever paint my rifle again, I'd make it look like a deer, minus the antlers and a white buttplate. [ni] OR a good lookin woman...those are extremely hard to see up past Augusta.

Here's a link to a guy who does parts of guns. He will only paint the entire gun if you deliver it yourself. http://www.camotech.com/prices.htm TS

What is this IBTL stuff? This is not a thread about "Marpat". I was pointing how effect the camo patterns are in nature using "big vertical bars and high contrast". If you have nothing add, then just move along, there is nothing here for you. Rant off- Badredfish [devil]

die-tryin Did you do that camo yourself?? If so what paint did you use?? Lauer products? That looks sweet. Thanks, John

Right on Ed. On the subject of camo...exactly WHAT color/pattern/whatever IS deer? Tan? Brown? Secret's in the fir I guess. I think what I should do is wrap my rifle in a deer pelt. That'd be the ultimate camo job. Deer has the be the hardest camo to spot. You want extreme camo...think venison.

Big patterns rule especially when you are in cover . Anybody remember "Skyline" camo, they may still be around in other parts of the country but have pulled out of Georgia. They made a pattern of huge black and white stripes that drew laughs in the truck but put it in woods and it would blow your mind. I would have never thought it.
