I'm not going to claim credit for this, as someone else, whose screen name I disremember, suggested this in another thread.
But let's try it. From now on, always refer to them as Homeland Defense Weapons, or HDWs. Anytime from September 13th on you hear someone say "Assault Weapon", remind them that the AWB has expired, and they are now known as HDWs. When you see it on the news, write a short, polite email informing them of the fact. See it in the paper? Short letter to the editor. Don't debate the law or the 2A, just correct the term. Let's see if we can get the term to go mainstream. The first time I see the term on Fox News Channel, I'll buy everyone on the site a Newcastle Brown Ale. I really will. Just take small sips, so everyone gets some. You didn't think I'd buy you EACH a beer, did you?

I think "evil assault bullet hose" is more appropriate.
Usage in a sentence: "I can't wait til' Monday so I can post pics of my evil assault bullet hose on Arfcom!!" |

They will never call them that. To the media they will always be "Assault Weapons"

Whoa there, killer. Beer is a powerful temptation to many here - methinks you will have to spend quite a bit, too.
Maybe not on home defense rifles - but something will pop up. Probably pie. |

"Homeland Defense Rifles" would be just as bad as "assault weapons" as the same people who don't like Assault weapons don't believe in Homeland Defense.

Homeland Defense Gun has a better ring to its acronym. HoDG (hodge).
I proclaim that, from today forward, my semi-autos will be referred to as HoDG's.

I understand where you're coming from but, honestly, if I'm going to correct anyone, it'll be to have them use the word "rifle". That's what it is. It's a rifle. It's not an "assault rifle", "sniper rifle", homeland defense rifle". It's just a rifle. AR15, HK93, Mini-14, Winchester '73 - say "rifle", goddammit. If you're feeling fancy and it has a stubby barrel, "carbine".

I call one "Baby Killer" and I call the other one "Threat to public safety".

I'd love to see one of those white ovals (like the "RKBA" on my car) that has a silhouette of an AR-15, with the letters "HDW." That would definitely get put on my ride!
