Ahhh, Spring is here and I love cutting the grass! I just got a new Lawn mower for the season.

Nothing much, I dont really need anything huge to mow my small front and back yard.

Its a Briggs & Straton 4.5HP Mulching 22"
If you know me, yo know that as soon as I got it home I threw away the crap motor oil they give with the mower to put in it, and I added the full synthetic Mobil-1 This mower is a keeper and I want it around for a long time!

I last had a Tucmsen[SP?] and it was total junk. Hard to change the oil in it, hard to find parts and ran really rough. So I am back with Briggs & Straton.

How about you guys, what do you all use?

I need to get a new one, it takes too long to cut the grass with this one.

laugh if you must but i Do have a picture of my lawnmower. I got this out of my grandfather's garage after he passed away. I brought it home, tore it down to every last bolt, and rebuilt it. It's a 1944 Wheel Horse. None of that plastic crap for me.

He's a federal endangered species so commerce in the armor is illegal. If the plating gets damaged you can patch it with Bondo according to my exotic animal vet.

BTW my ex-wife and I share two mowers. The little one is a 3.5 HP Briggs & Stratton similar to yours. I agree it's a great mower. Runs great except when her non-mechanos-mentis tenant put a bunch of motor oil in the fuel tank.

The other one is a Craftsman 6 HP mulcher, also a B&S engine I believe. It's powerful but kind of unwieldy. Any larger and I'd want a self-propelled mower. That one has the grass catcher in the back, which I like.

Thats one fine looking mower!
Was it originally red? I thought they were bark blue? Maybe I am thinking of a different kind.

Yeah, they were originally red. I dont think they were quite that color, but they were close. I should have powder coated it instead of painted it. It looks well used now. It is my dedicated snow pusher in the winter and takes some abuse. Its amazing the amount of work it can do w/ that small of an engine (like 4 - 5 HP) but it doesnt have hydrostatic gearing to lose power to or anything like that.

Really? The manual said it was ok. But I didnt even think about the rings. Will do that before next cut.

When do you think the rings will be seated?

I would give a lawnmower shop a call and ask them what they think, my guess would be about 2-3 hrs of running.

rings will eventually seat with whatever you use, its just that with higher quality oil it takes longer
