Election 2009 didn't prove nearly as successful as Election 2008 for CNN.
Whereas big news nights like Election Night were CNN's bread and butter during the 2008 presidential campaign, the network finished fourth Tuesday night, averaging just 826,000 total viewers in primetime and 227,000 in the Adults 25-54 demographic. Fox News ratings soared to an average of 4,043,000 total viewers and 1,130,000 A25-54 to easily win the night and beat all three cable news competitors combined in both total viewers and the demo. MSNBC placed second in total viewers an average of 974,000 to HLN's 842,000. In the demo, HLN placed second with 341,000 to MSNBC's 308,000. Watch the morning shows for a real hoot. Anytime News Organizations want to report on Ewoks and cookies or have people leering through the window behind the talking heads you just know there is nothing useful that you will learn from that program. Delbert and Noreen holding up a sign that says "Go Cheetahs" behind the newscasters is entertaining but not informative. Opinion Shows do not belong on news channels either. |

I disagree with this singular part: I think there is certainly a place for "INTERPRETATIONAL" opinions on the news (ie Glenn Beck, O'reilly or that fat slobbering guy from CNN - Lou Dobbs). However I agree it is important to be very, very clear in distinguishing the two - and I think Beck does a pretty good job of that. Report the news all day, but then recap it with critical questions and point out the flaws in the "official news release from the White House Media Corps" is a good thing for the general public, and part of the role of the press IMHO. The tricky part is when journalists interweave their opinions into selectively assymilating facts into their "unbiased" reports. |

My problem with CNN is when it became a bunch of feel good stories and politics. Even the "reporters" were acting like political analysts. Fox does this too but nowhere near the extent of CNN and the others. Just give me the news. Tell me what happened and is happening. I don't need you to tell me what to think about it nor do I want your opinion. |

If you can't tell what is "opinion" and what is "news" you have to be fucking retarded....
Also, what gets a lack of discussion sometimes is that bias can be shown in not just HOW a story is reported, but CHOOSING which stories to run. This is where Fox surges ahead. They were the only ones reporting on the ACORN things, until people started to be interested, then the others picked it up. OR, look at the news on GW. If it was negative, or could put a negative spin on it, CNN and others would pounce all over it, regardless of validity. Think the fake reports on GW's military record. |

These news organiztions don't understand something about Liberals. Liberals are liberals b/c it feels good, not because they pay attention to what is going on around them. In other words, most people who vote liberal are uninformed b/c they don't watch the news, don't read about politics and therefore won't be watching FOX, MSNBC or CNN. Conservatives however, do pay attention to these things and that is why FOX has high numbers.
