LOL, that’s a lot of push-ups!!!

I’m the CrossFit guy (whatever 🙄) - but it keeps me active 6 days a week @ 41yrs old.

Right now I’ve been doing the Murph (mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats, mile run) once a week since October (38-39 min average).
Push-ups are always the hardest for me. Maybe I should practice more

Good luck OP!!! 🤘🤘🤘

When did those start counting as pushups?

In the GWoR (1st) vid, the guy says the rules are strict. Elbows have to be at 90-degrees. It doesn't appear that he ever even gets that low, but as far back as I can recall, a strict pushup was going down enough to juuuust briefly touch my chest to the ground.

When did these super high pushups start counting?

I’ve only seen maybe 2 guys at our gym do those, and in my opinion, those are definitely not push-ups.
IMO - if your chest and thighs don’t touch the ground at the same time, it’s not a push-up.
This is what I go off of. OP - what are you doing?

Y'all are doing awesome! Keep it up!

I hit a slowdown after a few days because my chest was feeling it, so I dropped down to 50-60 a day, (no days off though). Now things are much better again and I did 100/day the last two days. I'm aiming to hit 200/day by mid Feb.

I don't touch the ground with my chest each rep, what is necessary is that your triceps are at or below horizontal.

Trying for another 800 ish today

This is a great idea and I’m plugging away at 5-6 sets of 25 every day.  I need to up it to 8 sets of 25.

A free exercise that works a lot of muscles at once is a win.

There is a video of a guy who does this and you can see how it improves his strength overall.

There was a thread about push-ups last spring, might even have been the same OP. At the time I was just finally recovering from a 2 year long battle with tendinitis in the shoulder. The thread inspired me to start doing push-ups. I worked my way from being able to do less then 20 to being able to do 80 push-ups at a time. I slacked off and have dropped to 70, I need to step up my game again. The goal was to hit 125.

So I have been doing elevated feet for my sets for several years.

At home I use a dining chair against the wall and when I am at the gym I will use platforms like I pictured yesterday.  Different angles and differing amounts on each platform if a set includes multiple heights within the same 50 count.

If I'm doing a single set on a specific height, my minimum count is 50.

I let my nose to within 3-4" of the floor and extend to lockout.

I did a Murph the last two years but am bowing out this year.  The wear and tear on me to do all of the training in a weighted vest were taking a toll on my joints.

Good luck, I hope you crush it.

This is a challenge for the sake of it, see it as that and nothing more.
Most definitely, doing a bunch of one exercise everyday or a zillion sets/week is dumb. Most likely these guys will lose muscle doing it. No different than a marathon runner. They run long distances to get better at running long distances, at the detriment to their body.

Push ups aren't a bad body weight exercise but hundreds per day are a waste of time. It is junk volume, add a weight vest if you can easily do 100 in a row.

X number of anything everyday works against all knowledge of building strength or muscle and joint health.

If you want to build strength and muscle you need progressive overload and you need time to recover.

I used to have a set of perfect pushup handles.  I gave them to a friend who owns a gym.  At the time I was working out there, I rarely did pushups because I was adamant about hitting the bench 3-4 days a week.

I hope they're getting good use at his gym now.

A few AM meetings and a 7 hour drive so no time for a legit workout.

But did manage to get in 400 push ups throughout the day and 5 x 10 pull ups, 5 x 20 dips and some ab work.

Home for the rest of the week so should be able to get in some better quality work.

I'm glad the OP made this post, on a week like this in the past I would have skipped a workout the last 3 hectic days.  The challenge of grinding it out just  so I can post on this page is making me do the work.

Better to spread the work across multiple movements to avoid repetitive motion injury.

I had a set of those, probably still in the basement somewhere. I picked up a cheapo set of tubular steel ones that don't rotate, they were like $9. I really like them for neutral grip, or especially reverse grip, push ups. Reverse grip with arms tucked close are great for triceps and hitting the upper chest. I never felt great about doing that with a bar with any significant weight, but pushups done with that hand position are fantastic. I find that they are an excellent supplement to dips and dumbbell benching.

I have one, and I've been using it for years. It most definitely works as intended. Be warned that if you have light-colored wood around the door frame, it will get black marks on it from the foam on the bar.

I'm having a difficult time taking 3 consecutive days off from doing pushups.

I know I had originally planned to do 1000 this week, and have already bumped that up to 1500.  I know my plan to get 70,000 done by the end of August is now scheduled to complete 3 weeks ahead of that.  But, I know the effort I am capable of producing, and that's why today I'll continue my path forward.

Part of this is the inspiration provided from HDLS, Jerryjeff, 545days, HiPower1935, djkest, and R3L04D.  Thank you to each of you for continuing the progress

I plan on doing 250 today, which will bring this week's total to 1750.  I will achieve the same next week.  That will put me 500 reps ahead of schedule.

What's the long term goal behind this?  More time in the fall for strength training to see if I can reach my 1RM bench press of 100lbs over my bodyweight.  If doing this work now gives me an extra week or 2 to get there, that's 2 extra weeks.

Godspeed gents and I pray we are successful.

Two weeks into the new year, 1400 push-ups done.

Did 100 again today, 30-40-30, totally forgot to do the last set while I was hurrying out the door to get to a shotgun shoot this morning, did it after I clicked on this thread and remembered.

Two weeks ago I don't think I could have done 40 in a set (okay, know I couldn't have), today I got to 40 and felt like I still had a few more in me.

All these push-ups are starting to show up in the gym too; did 43 reps in 4 sets of 50lbs incline dumbbell presses, and 38 reps in 4 sets of 130lbs bench presses. Given that I currently weigh 158, I feel pretty good about that.

ETA: @M4ger you're a friggin' beast man, thanks for the inspiration.

and in 2024, 100-120.
