I turn 60 this month and do about 200 per day.  I typically get them in while walking, I drop and knock out 35 push ups every 1/2 mile and get in 3- 5 miles per day, 5-6 days a week depending on my work schedule.

I accept the challenge and will turn it up to 300 per day.

I appreciate the motivation.

Most Push Ups in One Hour- Guinness World Records

Brett Masserant 8 hrs push ups

When did those start counting as pushups?

In the GWoR (1st) vid, the guy says the rules are strict. Elbows have to be at 90-degrees. It doesn't appear that he ever even gets that low, but as far back as I can recall, a strict pushup was going down enough to juuuust briefly touch my chest to the ground.

And that's the thing that most people wilfully ignore.

While some of us nuts prefer to lift, ride MTBs, run, kayak etc. (Even in my 50s), it doesn’t take hours of daily exercise to get in and stay in shape. Almost anyone without debilitating injuries/physical issues, can start off slow, and work to the point of doing this daily. A quick workout twice a day, for all the folks saying they don't have the time, or are too tired (the elevated heart rate and metabolic boost actually helps you feel less tired, and more energetic).

When I was 42-43 I used to do 300 per day, with 80-90 per set.

I’m 48 now and don’t do that much, but I did do 80 before shower today, with 50 in the first set.

ETA:  Forgot to mention that, as others have said, it helps keep my back good.  I have a bad disk in my lower back.

You've inspired me to do 1500 next week and following until I get to 10,000.

300x5 days.  Should do this through 17FEB2023.

After that I'm bumping to 2000/wk.

5 weeks of that will go to 24MAR2023.

Then 2500/wk until 70k.  11AUG2023.

3 weeks ahead of schedule.

I remember seeing your thread on this last year and thinking I might try it this year.

Push-ups used to be my thing when I was out at sea, but that ended over a year ago and I haven't done any since then.

Saw this thread on 1/3 and decided that was still plenty early to catch up; so far for the week I'm at:

1/3: 100 (4x25)
1/4: 200 (30, 35, 35 a.m., 4x25 p.m.)
1/5: 200, same as 1/4 with the addition of chest day at the gym that I skipped the last two weeks. That felt good
1/6: 100 as of 0740 a.m.

My goal was 100 a day, I'll probably stick with that number for now unless I find myself doing sets of 50 and knocking out 200 before work in the morning.

I agree - those are half-assed push-ups in those videos, IMO. It reminds me of the guys who brag about doing 87 pullups in a row. Then you watch them do their pullups while they're kipping, not dropping to full extension, and not even clearing the bar with their chin on the way up.

I start pushups at full extension with my back straight and drop my chest to within a couple inches from the floor while keeping my head up. Don't get me wrong, however; if my way is improper or bad for the body then I'm all ears.

No, I think you're the one doing it right, push-ups are full extension, and all the way down till the first part of you touches the deck. Doing them naked it cheating

Same for pull-ups; if you're not doing full extension to chin over the bar, you're not really doing pull-ups. I'm good for 13 honest-to-God pull-ups at the moment.

Had more spare time today so knocked out a 6 mile walk w/ weighted vest, 25 push ups per 1/2 mile for a total of 300.

So this week I'll begin doing 300x5, and I'm trying to decide if I want to start today.

I probably will since I did 1000 in 3 days last week and I think I'm recovered fully.

I expect to do 1500 pushups weekly for the next 12 weeks until reaching 19,000-20k.

That is subject to change if I find 300/day to be to easy.

I've done 10 an hour for a portion of the day, I'll probably end the day at 70 total. This is on top of a 5 mile run.  I can tell my shoulders and chest are fatigued. Had been strength training a lot previously and running minimally; recently that has switched and I've been meaning to spend more time with weights. At least this gets me some body weight reps for a portion of my muscles.

Posting here to start my log and see where I go.

Anyone tracking these on their Garmin watch? I created a strength workout for 10 Pushups and manually run that each set. Use an auto timer to go off every hour as a reminder. I guess I'm hoping at the end of x time I can go back and easily see how many I've done. I'm new to Garmin and especially trying to use it this way.

Good work, R3L04D.

I thought I stopped hating running last year, and for a time, I was enjoying it.  I got to where I was running a mile in 7:40 to 8:00 but never stuck with it over the long term like I did pushups, etc.

All I'm doing is keeping track on a spreadsheet with my food diary.  The daily running total of what my workouts are shows me what my progress is and is essentially my daily blank page that I try to fill up with success.

Both I guess.

I've heard people claim pushups are an inefficient workout. Like there are better ways to spend your time doing body weight exercises. And it's overly hard on your elbows for the gain you get. Thoughts?

Got jammed up at work today but was able to get in my 300 by knocking out sets of 25 when I could find a minute.

Knocked out shoulders and abs in my garage gym before bed.
