Just picked up a refurb Lenovo R60 for $310 on tigerdirect.com. This thing is a beast of a machine. Already plan on upgrading the RAM. Are these good machines?

Other than the horribly dim screen, it was a solid machine. Sold it to go back to MacOS. Durability wise I bought it because I heard they were well built compared to the other top brands. |

I had an IBM Thinkpad, and I would gladly purchase another Lenovo.

Chinese bought otu IBM's Lenovo line. I wonder what's built into them now?

Chinese bought otu IBM's Lenovo line. Many years ago. Lenovo's "ThinkPad" models are still top-notch. The "IdeaPad" line is targeted more at price-conscious buyers - and reflects it, quality-wise. |

Don't know the specifics, just know that I heard all about how it was a pain trying to not order Lenovo's for the .gov. |

our office has been upgrading from the Dell 600>610 to the Lenovo T400 series.. I've got the oldest one in the office now..it's ok, yes, better than the Dell, but.. biggest issue is
I'm running XP and running into issues, everone else has win7 |

The R60 is the consumer line of ThinkPads.
It has most of the same features of the T60 but not the magnesium case. Still should be a good laptop. I just ordered the Lenovo W701ds Should have it just after the first of the year. |
|
I want a T410. IIRC the .gov opened them up and there were chips that didn't have any apparent purpose and Lenovo wouldn't say what they were.

I had a Thinkpad R51. It was solid. I hauled it in a laptop case all over Cambodia and Phils in the back of the truck over a lot of rough backroads and it never failed me. I gave it away last year and it is still running strong. I have a Lenovo now same thing. I love it.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad R61 for my work laptop and it is a solid machine. The software SUCKS, as we run a "Virtual Machine" (computer within the computer) and it is horribly unstable. With thousands in use we have had very few problems with the machines themselves, but Support is very tired of our constant griping about the software problems.
Don't ask about the Dells we had years ago! |

I only ever had one software issue where the thing would not stay in hibernation, and I was pleasantly surprised reasonably shortly after receiving it and noticing the problem when an automatic update solved it. |

Thinkpads are good stuff. When you look at the guts, it makes foxconn/apple products look like shit. There is a lot of thought, design, and quality put into thinkpads.

OP lenovo laptops are of excellent quality and you will not be disappointed. How much of a list do you want? We have to do a daily "dial in" via phone line. It will routinely hang up at "Verifying Username and Password" and then hang up the phone. This requires a reboot––which is a ten minute process as both machines boot up separately. Real nice when the daily cut-off is 6:00 PM and you sometimes can't get home until close to the deadline. Another thing––we use an electronic signature pad. The USB port will routinely not be recognized, and this after being tested initially. It will commonly work for my signature, then go dead when my client tries to sign immediately thereafter. Of course, routine "lock ups" are constant––"Not Responding" I told Support I was going to invest in a "computer hammer" and he said to go ahead and get one––and use it. He said they will send me another one just like it. Big help that guy, but at least he has a better sense of humor than I do. Just the boot-up from off is an adventure––nearly twenty minutes. Real nice when a client calls early in the day and wants info on their account. |

my company provides these for a work computer, and i am on my second one.
my first one ran great for 4 years, i dropped it a few times, it hit the floor board of my vehicle on a few highspeed stops. i didn't blatantly abuse, it but it did roll with the punches tho. i was having some software issues and i had to send it in for repairs and what not, but my company said the lease ran out so they gave me a new one that was more high tech. the one i have now is an L412, and at the moment i cant recall which model i had before this...i just remember it had a fingerprint scanner thingy. i think they are good laptops, and if i had a need to buy another laptop i would consider lenovo for sure.

I've had a Lenovo X300 with SSD for the past 20 months. No problems except for recent battery replacement.

Chinese bought otu IBM's Lenovo line. The Chinese company Lenovo has been the OEM for IBM ThinkPads for years. When IBM was looking to get out of the laptop business, Lenovo bought the rights and started selling directly. The ThinkPad line is still top notch; the only laptops I will buy are Macs and ThinkPads. |

How much of a list do you want? Most of that list sounds like problems with your company's software package, and not the computer hardware. Does your company's system –– VM's, electronic signature pads, POTS dial-in –– work any better on other brands of hardware? |

Does your company's system –– VM's, electronic signature pads, POTS dial-in –– work any better on other brands of hardware? I said that––it's purely a software issue. The machines themselves have been great. We didn't have this kind of software on past machines, so I can't compare. They had a compartmentalized "Personal Side" and "Business Side" that somehow made a difference, but we had so many hardware problems it was "always something" (mostly screens going crazy, such as psychedelic streaking (3 in my case alone), and actual crashes (1 for me)) to deal with. As I don't use the laptop for any personal stuff, it's never been an issue for me. As I said above, the Dells we had REALLY sucked, but that was 5+ years ago, so the info is too dated to be meaningful today. |

You're good to go. All of my personally owned laptops are Lenovo T-series.

Very solid hardware... far outlasts the software after heavy school use. My friends have dropped theirs (I never have). I don't like that they're Chinese but then again I bought an ASUS because I didn't bother to check their company history.
