I want to see if this (my 25th post) makes me a member.

I also want to ask a trivia question--I will say right now that I am not sure if the answer is correct myself, but someone here might know (and I'll relate it the way it was told to me):

I was told by a history instructor in my tender youth that the south made a MAJOR mistake in pissing off Eli Whitney. Now, as well educated followers of this forum, you know that Mr. Whitney invented the Cotton Gin, and the southerners were smart enough to copy the design --which pissed Mr. Whitney off enough that he invented or developed this, and gave/sold it to the Damn Yankees: ??

What is it?? (I may be wrong, but it makes for an interesting trivia question).

The milling machine for (mass) producing rifles with interchangeable parts. The ideas were reused to other industries making mechanized tools and instruments, helping create the disparity in the economies of north and south.

He died in 1825, so he missed out on the war directly.

sfoo got it!! That is the same way I heard it--by making interchangeable rifle parts, the North was able to keep their firearms in use constantly by swapping out parts. The South had to have each one worked on by a skilled gunsmith, which would take them out of action for much longer.

Is it 25? Pretty sure it was 30 on the old board. OK you caught me piggybacking on the post to up my number closer to the magical 25. That is interesting tho. Was it the Springfield Armoury that was the first to implement the mass production model with interchangeable parts?

how old are you guys? what do you get for upgrading your user status besides inflated egos? maybe the quality of a post should be taken in to account. do all you guys really have rifles?

The problem with the counting of your post system is that people judge you by it. I was called a troll in my first post here, and I think it was because people looked and saw I was a junior member and that I only had 1 posts. Once these people get more posts, people will pay attention to them and not treat them like newbies.

And do we have to have a rifle to post here? This is general discussion, and while I do not have an ar-15 (do have a .22...), I frequent these forums learning more about ar-15's and legal issues surrounding them...

if you ask intelligent questions and reply with intelligent answers people will treat you with respect. you will learn more by scanning other areas of this site than by placing juvenile posts. it makes it easier to judge your age when you poke away aimlessly(pun intended).

I have more than one ar's, and several other firearms....does that make me qualified to be junior member? Perhaps I should tell of my good deed for the shooting community. Last weekend I took a pair of friends shooting. One had never shot before, one was in the army previously. The huge grin on the newbie's face was priceless when she held up her finely peppered target for the camera.
