So, if I understand this federal law correctly, I can't walk my dogs past a school, or even a few block past the school down the street from me without breaking a federal law?

Is this right?

Isn't this a defacto ban from anyone living across the street from a school even OWNING guns?

WTF?!

Unconstitutional.

Google the US Supreme Court case in LOPEZ.

Update:

Here's the opinion where the SCOTUS threw the law out:  supct.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/93-1260.ZS.html

(Incidentally, this is the same sort of commerce clause analysis that Judge Kozinski of the 9th Circuit used to overturn the prosecution of the guy who made his own machine gun).

I think the scariest thing about that is the room it gives the government to take second amendment rights away from home-schoolers.  Most states consider home-schools a type of private school.
