What is your favorite model of Leatherman Knife? I used to have a "wave" but lost it this past summer. I am looking to replace it and would like some input on which is your favorite model and why?

I thought this was some sort of John Kerry joke.

OK, so it is about John Kerry. That sucks!

Some of models newer Leatherman is much improved over the original Wave. Personally, I wouldn't buy another Leatherman tool. Tim Leatherman is not my friend.

WTF?

Mr. Leatherman endorsed John Kerry in the last election, and when people voiced their displeasure at the company taking such an active, open political stand he gave the right wing a big "FUCK YOU" in a letter, unopologetically saying he was a lefty all the way.

I don't like Leatherman's anyway, I own 3 Gerbers, but after that little diatribe I'll never send a dollar his way. Do as you please, or as your conscience allows.

BTW, this has come up about 1,000 times since the election. Search feature is your friend.

I've been exploring the GERBER brand of utility plyer tools. My Leatherman seems a little flimsy for some of the tasks I've put it through...any thoughts?

I'm slow at posting tonight! So the Kerry model is about John Kerry.
Maybe I will have to look into a Gerber.

I have never had good results with the search feature. But none the less, I would not have known to search about the political beliefs of Leatherman's company.

It went well. I'll zip you an IM so I can stop hijacking your thread. I don't know anything about leatherman's. Patty

I already got it, so I'm not going to drop dime on something else.

I like my wave. Does all that ask of it.
Link Posted: 10/2/2005 7:18:20 PM EDT
Look up Kershaw multi tool, ever since I got one I would never go back to Leatherman,
plus I found out Kershaw has some of the best customer service by far, I needed a new
sheath for a Kershaw boot knife and my multi-tool (just worn out) I email there tech support
where to buy a replacement and two days later by express mail there were two new sheaths,
and I never asked for a freebie ! thats why I'll by Kershaw from now on.

Did Benchmade come out with a multi-tool yet? I really like Benchmade products and their factory is only about 25 miles from me.

Where's your Kershaw made? The one's I've seen are made in China.
I'd rather fund a domestic enemy than a foreign one, given those two choices.

The real ones are made here, you can find some copies made from China

Didn't even check the leatherman.

Yeah, Tim Leatherman is a fink, but I really do like my Charge. Basically like a Wave, but it has a Titanium handle and interchangeable screwdriver bits (about a dozen are included, and they fit inside the belt pouch). I like it.

Buy Tim's wares on the secondary market - problem solved.

He will never see a direct dime from me.

Probably, but I decided to get a Gerber anyway. Just couldn't bring myself to buy a Leatherman after he endorsed Kerry. My Gerber has been awesome though, and it was only $25. Plus I am still supporting the local economy because Gerber is based in Portland also.

No more Liberalman products for me!
Link Posted: 10/2/2005 9:44:16 PM EDT
I like my Leatherman Wave, but I purchased it without knowing who I was supporting. Oh well.

My next multi-tool will be a Gerber or something without "Leather" in the name.

The Swisstools are the way to go. WHen my Gerber breaks or gets stolen, I'm getting one of these. My buddy has one and it is much more solid than my Gerber.

Can you show me a link to the tool you have?

I need to replace my Leathermans (wearing out, warranty will replace them, but fuck the anti 2nd guys, and lefty's are by definition anti 2nd)

unfortunately, i bought mine way before he came out of the liberal faggot closet. it's never been a "hard use" tool for me. everything is just a "bit" too flimsy. i've already chipped the big screw driver blade, torqued the hell out of the tiny screwdriver (almost looks like a corkscrew now), the phillips head is almost an icepick, the big knife blade is slightly bent, chipped, and d-u-l-l, the needlenose tip of the pliers are almost flattened out, the wire cutter notch almost looks serrated from cutting things i guess were too hard (hangers???), and the regular pliers mouth is gouged to hell. about the only thing that's really undamaged is the file/"saw" and the surface of the file is kinda rusty. oh well, i don't really like the feel of the leatherman anyway, it really hurts like hell to grasp that mother to turn a frozen bolt or nut.

as you can tell, i use my shit... but it's not like i'm a construction worker or anything rugged like that! the leatherman just doesn't measure up. when this one finally craps out, i'll be looking elsewheres for the replacement.

I've got a 12 year old standard model. Getting a little loose, but still does what I need it to do. Pouch is about gone though. Going with the leather next time.

Tried a WAVE a couple of years ago, hated it.

I have several multi-tools from Leatherman (Wave, Supertool, Micro) and they are top notch. I really love the Wave. But I also have Gerber and SOG. I really love my Gerber (was bought 12 years ago before they got into the cheap Walmart market). If I was going to buy another, I go for Kershaw and Gerber (in the order). Tim Leatherman can keep hanging with his lefty cronies for all I care, but he won't be doing it with my money.

If you want to hurt Timmy, don't melt it. That decreases overall supply, and helps him.

Sell it to somebody you can't convince to buy another vendor. That prevents them from making an extra sale.
