It the Italian Govt. that put this stupid rule omologating new Garands for civilian market resale.

Old omologation will stand with 8 rounds, but all the new omologated Garands should use a 5 round clip, or you go straight to jail...

You had Brady and AWB, we have the average bureocrat supplied with a HUGE amount of stupidity.

Whew - that's a relief.

Because we all know that the real killing is done with the last three rounds of the clip.
Link Posted: 10/8/2004 7:06:58 AM EST
At least you have 5 the Germans have a 2 round limit.
Link Posted: 10/8/2004 7:09:57 AM EST
I have the same limit living in New York City. It's fairly annoying because it means instead of buying $0.50 en block clips I must buy special 5 rounders at 8 bucks each.

Just buy the fifty cent clips and modify them with your dremel tool. There are several sites on the net that show how to do it.

I know it still sucks that you have to do that.

I thought they were going the opposite direction?

Especially after Erfurt?

CRC:
The German govt now also recognizes shotgun, rifle and pistol IPSC competitions as legitimate sporting events, they got a lot of goodies back. Only tradeoff is now anyone under 25 must have a mental eval before they can buy a gun, IIRC.

So this for ISPC, that they overhauled the gun laws?

This only includes semi-auto rifles?

Thanks

German officials are VERY sceptical that IPSC is the so much feared
and forbidden "combat shooting". However, the new german gun law
gave shooters some "sweets" to swallow lots of restrictions (how you
have to store your gun, who is a sport shooter, under 25 tests, etc.)
which in summary make it harder & more expensive to own guns. Once
you are there, they can withdrawn the papers anytime- and can even
declare whole sport organisations illegal (permanent threat to IPSC and
CASS). But they DO got a lift on the hollowpoint ban and more semi-auto
rifles which don't have to be castrated any more as long as they are
"civilian machined and for civilian use only" (kind of hard to proove with
most Ar15 manufacturers).

Erm....5-round magazine, maybe?

These are the people (the UN) that want to write our gun laws.

What VTDefender means is that M1 Garand's actually load and fire from a spring steel clip, not from a box magazine. 8 rounds snap into the steel clip and are held there by tension. The rounds are lifted from below by a feed mechanism in the rifle itself. When the clip is empty, it ejects from the rifle.

K, thanks for the clarification. That's why I phrased it as a question, because I wasn't sure. I've never fired one.

It's cool. Yeah, I can be one.

Get out and shoot one if you can. They make a marvelous *PING* when the spent clip is ejected (Not to mention, they are fun as hell and accurate too)

My brother's desribed it as a "cannon" compared to most rifles and that I should be prepared for a good kick.

Let's put it this way: I'm 5'4", weigh 115. The first time I shot a 12-gauge, the recoil threw me off balance and I was almost knocked to the ground.

hmmm.....yeah...it might beat on you a little bit then :)

An M1 Garand has far less recoil than a 12 gauge. The Garand is fairly heavy, and the gas system helps soften the recoil.

Good to know. We all know over 5 rounds qualifies as an "accurate from the hip" bullet hose. We would have seen drive by bump firings on the Vatican if not for this law.

That describes the average bureaucrat worldwide: "Make more laws because that's what we're paid to do!" And once they get into their .gov jobs, getting them out is like trying to get rid of ticks. (Apologies to the good guys, of course, who actually try to serve their constituents.)
