My 10 old 52" JVC DILA died Sun. I am liking the LG 4K's. Owners, any luck with LG sets? How long has yours run or if you had one how long did it last?

Would you Fo?

Thanks for any input!

Vizio M series.  Good Picture.  Great Pricing.  Not much reason to go with anything else.

I also have a 60" LG plasma and it is fantastic. Bought it at Sams Club a couple years ago, great refresh rate and the picture is phenomenal. Price was under $800

Just bought a 42" LG for the bedroom. Purchased from WM, fairly new but I do like the picture and sound so far.

LG's notoriously have T-Con board problems, and will eventually rear it's ugly head.

I have a 65" LG 4k and no issues with it.  LCD does backlight which, even when done correctly, doesn't look the same as plasma or OLED.  That said the price was right, amazon delivered, the set works.  No lie, blue ray up converted is the shit.

Its webos is cool, stuff like amazon, MLB, netflix and my media server are available.  the magic pointy remote isn't my thing but some people like it.

I just use a harmony setup and call it a day.

Because then you'd be caught up in the LGBT agenda.

I am sure all brands have issues, but we bought an LG 42" plasma in 2006.  They were still relatively expensive back then.

Three years (almost to the day of purchase) the ZSUS board failed.  I called LG and all they would say is "you should have purchased the factory extended warranty."

I found a seller on eBay of all places who fixed the boards on exchange for about $100 and replaced the board myself.  It is still working today.

I would not purchase LG again.

Vizio gets to low prices through sourcing cheap parts.  LG is more reliable, and is a better value

Fuck LG.  I bought a 42 inch lcd back in 2007 and with in 5 years it was dead.  During that time it had the power source replaced twice under warranty.

Even the LGphones we had battery issues I will never buy another LG product

I have a 60 inch lg plasma I purchased in 2006, changed the board once but the picture on that heavy sucker is amazing. I love plasma but they are so heavy and hot I don't want to mess with it anymore. I have a 47 inch Lg 3d led for the past 4-5 years. Zero issues. Doesn't seem as bright as my Samsung but my Samsung 7000 series tends to be glitchy. I also have a recent purchase of a 60 inch lg led TV and so far so good. Sound can be lacking but my tv is 25 feet away from my bed, so that's expecting a lot out of some 5-10 watt speakers.

Right now I'm at my sisters house and they just purchased a Samsung 79 inch curved 4k TV. It's nice, but it isn't over 5k dollars nice. Nothing besides Netflix can handle 4k right now anyways, so I'll hold off till there's more support for 4k uhd tv's. We are in between era's of tv's right now. And personally, unless it's the main TV in the living room, I would get a cheaper led than the 4k. They are expensive right now, with little support, most cable and satellite companies can't even broadcast in 1080p, so you really won't be able to tell the difference in resolution

I don't know. I know it's not the bulb, It' a OEM Osram I replaced 4 months ago. It was hot when I removed it so I assume it was working. I put in the old bulb that was working but getting dim and got nothing too. Just a black screen. It's a DILA set with 3 Ti chips like their high end projectors. One each for red, green and blue so no color wheel. I assume it's the light engine.

It was a great 720P set for 10 years but after seeing the up converting 4K's. It's time for some newer tech. Hopefully the new LG will last at least long enough for the OLED sets to come way down in price.

Thanks again to all that gave input.

My input, for what it's worth:

The only real benefit to 4K is if you have a large screen viewed at relatively close distance.  That's it.  Any talk of better contrast, more dynamic range, etc. has to do with the quality of the components in the set, and not the format itself.

You had a projector, and now you're looking at a monitor.  Why?  You can buy a 1080P D-ILA projector for not much more than a high-quality 65+ inch monitor (which is the smallest 4K monitor I would ever consider buying.)  I assume your home theater room is set up properly for 720P, so it will be even better with a good 1080P setup.

D-ILA is still the finest affordable technology for home theater viewing.  Why not stick with it?  Forget about 4K.

Sorry for any miscommunication. It's not a projector, it's a JVC 52" DILA projector TV. And yes it had an amazing 720P picture. Like the old JVC the new set will be mounted 5' up and tilted down so when we view content in our fully reclined recliners it is extremely comfortable. Our 9' - 11' viewing distance would mandate a 65" class TV but the wife complains the existing 52" is too big already so I am going with a 50" class to placate her. Doesn't matter to me, I have been blessed with unbelievable eyesight. Even in my 60's I can see a tick on a bulls butt at a hundred yards.

The JVC was state of the art High Tech when I bought it 10 years ago and I want the hottest thing going now but can't justify the cost of OLED. From what I have seen I think we will like the up converted Blu-Ray and additional 4K content from our Direct TV as it comes online.

With all the very favorable reviews I'm seriously close to pulling the trigger on a LG 49" UHD 4K Smart TV for $650 delivered with no tax. Plus the $100 5 year extended warranty.

Is there a better deal out there?

Have a 37" LG LCD I bought in 2009, been a great one.  Once in a while when I turn it on, the screen stays black and you can't see the light being cast out of the back.

Turn it off and back on and it's fine.  Only issue I've had with it.

Consumer Reports user survey disagrees with your claim.  Aside from  Westinghouse, all major tv brands are essentially equal in reliability.

Update. Well this is embarrassing . Before I disconnected everything and took the sawzall to it I turned it on and tried a different input. Much to my surprise the On air/Antenna input worked, Blu Ray/DVD input worked so I figured something was wrong with the only HDMI TV input I was using from the Direct TV receiver. I hooked up an old but good $75 Component/RGB cable to another TV input from the Direct TV receiver's component outputs and viola a better than ever beautiful picture. I guess the single HDMI port circuity on the TV is toast? Or the $35 HDMI cable is toast? Or the Direct TV HDMI output is Toast? Anyway I swear the component input is giving me a Better/sharper 720P/1080I picture than I was getting with the HDMI. Is this even possible? I guess we will keep the new 4K TV money in the bank and keep this 12 year old beast going. It really does have a really great picture still.

Thanks again to all that took the time to respond. Sorry for the screw up.

I tried the factory Support HDMI port reboot with a different HDMI cable.

1a) make sure the two slide switches on the top of your remote are set
to TV and VCR (both to the left).

1b) Press SLEEP TIMER and make sure it is set to "0" minutes. (Only on
screen for 2-3 seconds)

2) While "0 minutes" is being displayed on the screen, press DISPLAY and
VIDEO STATUS at the same time. This will pull up a service menu on
the screen.

3) Press the option # 2 (SELF CHECK) on the service menu

4) Turn the TV off and allow the set to run its normal cool down
process.

5) Turn the TV back on and set the TV back to DIGITAL IN mode by
pressing on the INPUT button.

I did this twice and got nothing from the Blu Ray or Direct TV receiver. Here is the set.http://www.crutchfield.com/S-DvOcZefG5ra/p_25752Z575/JVC-HD-52Z575.html

I swear I'm getting the best 720P/1080I picture I've ever had with the component hook up. And apparently it is actually possible in some apps.http://www.bluejeanscable.com/articles/dvihdmicomponent.htm

I've been running the Blu-Ray on component for years because of only one TV HDMI port. Always wondered why the Blu-Ray picture was so good.

We're just gonna run it as is till it dies.

60in lg plasma. 3d smart tv blah blah. While it hasn't had any problems it's my least favorite of all my TVs. Picture is OK. Not even comparable to my Panasonic and not as good as the Visio either. I have it for prob two years with no issues though.

Now the WORST thing about the TV is the glare. Absolutely sucks. If there's a window in the room you have to get black out curtains and kill the lights. This this is like a mirror
