I think the problem with that war was Truman, not Macarthur.

Sounds like Truman was a died in the wool peacenick who decided to only fight half a war. I would have told China to withdrawl, or we will nuke Beijing.

They maliciously attacked us, and AFAIC is an act of all out war...

I agree.  The way the US fought that war has been the model we have fought wars since (not fighting to win).  It is all Truman's Fault!

Problem is,we might have had to make good on that threat. That would have involved the Rooskies,seeing as the Berlin crisis was but a few years earlier,they would have done something bad in Europe,where our conventional forces would be no match for theirs.

Didn't Truman serve as a Captain of artillery in the AEF in France in WWI? Doesn't sound like a "dyed in the wool peacenik" to me.

I do think Truman should have let Mac do his thing, but I wouldn't call Truman a peacenik. That's all.
