EVERETT, Wash. – A teen-ager accused of holding two girls at knifepoint in a high school classroom has been charged with kidnapping and assault, and his brother has been charged with harassment.
David Thomas Lengenfelder, 17, remained in jail with bail set at $100,000 cash after Snohomish County prosecutors charged him as an adult Thursday with one count of first-degree kidnapping and two counts of second-degree assault.
His 15-year-old brother, accused as a juvenile of helping to write harassing and threatening letters, was arrested Wednesday evening and placed in detention after his parents took him to sheriff's deputies.
The older brother brandished two long kitchen knives in an English class Monday at Lakewood High in Arlington, ordering students and the teacher to the floor and cornering a 15-year-old girl to whom he had sent threatening and sexually explicit letters, deputy prosecutor Mark Roe wrote.
A friend of the girl came to her aid, refused to leave and also was threatened by Lengenfelder, who dropped his knives after being confronted by a gun-wielding sheriff's deputy who was assigned as the school's resource officer.
Lengenfelder, who had been expelled from the school for harassing letters in February, subsequently told sheriff's Detective Brad Pince he had planned the takeover for two weeks, intending to let everyone go if he was allowed an hour with the object of his fixation.
"He says he intended to use that hour to apologize for his previous harassing letters and assure her that he meant no harm," Roe said, adding that he might have been "a little more convincing if not for the two large knives."
Roe said Lengenfelder "candidly admits an obsession" with the former classmate, and he "fancies himself some kind of 'Ninja' with martial arts skills."

Two things that bother/interest me:
1) "...dropped his knives after being confronted by a gun-wielding sheriff's deputy ..."
Oh heavens!!! A gun wielding sheriff! I never thought I'd live to see the day that sheriff deputies needed to carry guns.[rolleyes] As if it was some shock to the reporter that even a sheriff would carry a gun in a school.
2) "...fancies himself some kind of 'Ninja' with martial arts skills..."
Ninjas everywhere lookout... you are now all suspects to be the next school psycho [:D]
