My wife is broken down at a gas station outside of Tyler on I-20. I'll pay for your dinner/beer if you go guard her.

ETA: I'm on my way, driving from Dallas. I'm 2-3 hours out by the time I get the trailer.
Update
Truck died when I hitched the trailer at haul. Tow truck coming to to the truck to the shop. Friend on his way with his truck to get me and the trailer

Update 2: Home safe. Thank you to all that called and offered help, and to those who IM'd me. Your offers to help are sincerely appreciated.

A man who is there helping says there is an oil slick all underneath her car.

I was thinking "Tyler State Park" is 2 miles away, then I noticed the TX.

Why doesn't he get under there and fix it?

Do you really think it is safe to invite an ARFCOMMER to 'guard' your wife?
Link Posted: 3/14/2011 11:28:35 AM EST
Very sorry to hear that hondaciv. I hope someone in the area steps up to help.

Good luck.

Oil pan hole, drain plug loose or filter loose. Any work lately?

Does your wife 'carry', and how good is her situational awareness?
Link Posted: 3/14/2011 11:29:39 AM EST
Free bump - if I was there, I'd do it for free.

I am trying to imagine a scenario in which I would ask random Arfcom GDer's to "guard" my family.

I like to think that most of our members are good people... Perhaps a little weird, but still good people.

I guess you're right. I'd help but I'm 75 miles away.

is she close to that place that has the pitchers of Margaritas?
Link Posted: 3/14/2011 11:35:05 AM EST
I don't mean to go against the grain or look upon arfcom members as bad...... but.....
I don't think I'd advertise on a public forum that my wife was unarmed and stranded on the side of the road. You never really know who's reading these. But my wife says I'm hypersensitive to safety issues so.... maybe I'm wrong.

Hope all ends well.

Parts of it are kinda shady, but there's nothing really dangerous.

And if she's up on I-20, she's actually a little ways from the city itself.

I wouldn't say dangerous, but he's got a devious look about him.

Road damage? Make/model?

Aluminum oil pans can be cracked as they are cast Al. And an ordinary bar of soap will work to fill in the crack if small. Oil causes soap to swell.

If a pressure leak, repair is harder.

Lets hear it for a cracked block and/or oil pan!

If this was happening back in late September I could have been of some help.
There are some arfcomers in Tyler. One does a little gun writing IIRC.
If she's on the NW side of town, that part looked pretty safe to me.

Goodluck,

Honda,

If that's your only car shoot me a PM and we can go grab my sack of tools and go take a look.

I would say the risk to reward ratio is worth it.....In general, I would trust the "average" arfcommer more than the "average" random guy on the freeway.

If you genuinely feel that this place is worse than society at large, help yourself to some fresh GTFO.

Good luck Hondaciv, wish I were closer.

There's also the old 'bar of soap' fix as well. n/m Keith addresses that already.

Smartypants.

+1

I'm about 3 hours away from tyler. North of both of you.

I'm sure she'll be fine. If she has geico, she's got roadside assistance and towing. Try not to worry too much.

I hope this is followed by a thread by your wife showing off her new membership and gun.
