I had some scrap sheet metal laying around, so I made a little mini-wood stove.

I tried to do this as "authentically" as possible, and used garden hose water to simulate river water. I'll be honest, the macaroni was disgusting. It tasted like hose water and a dash of "white cheddar" cheese. I did not eat it all.  Hose water macaroni G17 with Speer GD +P+ ammo OTC pain killer with Codeine   |

Nice stove. I've made all manner of stoves over the years. Coffee can wood burners work just fine for me.
That said get you one of the Swedish Military alcohol stove/burner/mess kit combos. Other than weight of the SS unit it does everything you need it to do. The burner stand/windshield will also double as a wood burner in a pinch. I've used the same unit for many a year. BTW the hose water was a bad choice as river water does not take on a plastic taste. I've used stream/creek water often. Not dead yet.
