... Post yours here.

In 2000 my now ex-wife was expecting and we got to watching ER on Thursdays as a sort of thing together.   I generally hated the show.    But on Valentines day there was an out there episode where a deranged law student knifed the Lucy and Carter characters with this sort of booming music from a holiday party in the background.

It went from the trivial "meh" sort of prime time soap operate to "holy mother of fuck" just like that.   My ex wife cried for an hour and a half.

Fiction wise, I was pretty suprised, kicked in the gut, when Shane killed Lem on the Shield.

Fuck, guys... get off the challenger and 9-11 stuff.

I'm asking about TV shows.  I'm talking about good writing and acting evoking a WOW response.  (Agree BTW on the last post ).

The Iran episode of "The Unit"

I don't get sucked in to TV dramas that much but I was blown away by the excellent writing and acting in this episode.

I can recall a few:

1.  Hill Street Blues when Sgt Esterhouse died and the street sweeper swept up his ashes in the final scene.

2.  Millenium when Patty Smyth's song Horses was used as the future appocalypse was seen by the lead character.

3.  The final episode of MASH.

Gary

I remember watching the last 5 min of that episode (I wasn't an ER fan, just waiting for the next show after that to come on). I remember that song though and thinking that was an intense moment. I remember being somewhat obsessed with finding that song, and Napster was still on line. I'm pretty sure that song was Battle flag by Low-Fidelity Allstars.

From that same episode, the actual 'moment' for me was when I suddenly realized what was going to happen in a few minutes, when Shane had moved out seperately from Vic and ditched his IA tails.  I knew in an instant what was about to happen and dreaded it for the remainder of the episode.

That was the scene that can to mind for me. Pretty obscure, but it was hard core, especially for back then on prime time.

The entire "X-files" episode called "Home".

The episode was banned from Fox after its first airing due to its sensitive and somewhat taboo subject matter. It is also the only episode to receive a TV-MA rating in America.
