Hello one and all,

Anyone have any news on how things are going at Keesler AFB outside Boloxi ? ? ?

Have a fellow co-worker that was stationed there a few years ago and is very concerned about his old friends that are still stationed there.

Any info GREATLY appreciated ! !

Thanks a million ! ! !

* Base Commander is estimating $800M -$900M
* Every single structure is damaged
* Entire Housing areas under water
* Everyone accounted for - no deaths at Keesler
* Beau Rivage - water up to 3rd story
* Keesler is limping through with generators

My best friend from childhood, Sgt. Jeff Dean, reported back today. Said it's a complete mess.

I had a phone call to my home late last night asking me if I would take in some refugees from the base there for a few days. Biloxi is quite a drive from Pensacola.

Must be pretty bad.

I believe the Navy Seabee base at Gulfport is equally messed up.

But I bet there hasn't been one episode of looting, even for "necessities".

That would be an exceptionally safe bet.

Sounds like Keesler AFB needs to be put on the BRAC list...

Spooky

It probably would be cheaper to move the Communication Schools and the Hurricane Hunter birds elsewhere.

The Comm Schools could easily be moved to say FT Gordon or where ever the Navy has its Comm Schools.

The Weather birds could go to Eglin.

In an impressive display of irony, Katrina also decimated the Navy Meterological Headquarters which I believe is ENE of New Orleans.

Speaking of military bases...

Does anyone know hor Fort Polk fared? It's a little more NW of the strike point though, so it shouldn't be too bad.

What about Fort Campbell? It's really far inland, but the remnants of Katrina were tracked to pass over it.

Lackland has about 200 airman that just graduated last Fri, and they are now what we call "holdovers". They should have shipped on early Monday morning but now they are stuck at Basic here at Lackland for awhile. Dont worry we are keeping them busy weedeating and doing details around base. By the regs they are still in basic until they sign in to their tech school. They might be here a while.

Again.......

Went thru Camille in '69 when dad was stationed there (MCB-121 IIRC). Home was in Biloxi but we weathered the storm on base (good thing, the house in Biloxi was gone afterwards).
Dad operated the MARS station & did radio/phone stuff.

The real kicker was all the guys in one of the other MCB that were just rotating home from their tour of 'nam. Hell of a homecoming.
