Verlander fans 12, walks four in club's sixth gem June 13, 2007 BY JON PAUL MOROSI FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER Justin Verlander stood at his locker Tuesday night, already soaked with some initial celebratory spray, a bottle of Dom Pérignon in his hands. He fidgeted with the foil, untwisted the wire, then worked on the cork. He needed a few moments to yank off the top and send a stream of champagne into the happy air. That marked the first time he had struggled -- in any way whatsoever -- on a night for the ages. Verlander, the Tigers' masterful young ace, became the fifth pitcher in franchise history to throw a no-hitter -- the first since Jack Morris in 1984 -- in a 4-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers before 33,555 at Comerica Park. It was the first no-hitter by a Tiger at home since Virgil Trucks in 1952. FULL STORY

Verlander has some good stuff. No-hitters are rare in this day and age, with relievers and specialty pitchers and closers in the bullpen, starting pitchers rarely go nine innings any more.

The one thing that I miss about Detroit is going to watch the Tigers play. They were here just last week, but I couldn't make it to any of the games.
I remember the no hitter that Jack morris threw back in 1984. It was a day game again the White Sox at Komisky. Condgratualtions Justin! |

I knew the the Tigers were in town last week and I thought about you, Steve. But, I figured your schedule would be too full to waste time at the Ballpark.
Hopefully next time we can make it to one of those games.
