I didn't think they were selling them in the states yet...
Would you buy one? |

I'd love to have one with a manual transmission, but I don't think it is offered.

Assuming they're reliable, a small diesel truck is relevant to my interests Oh, and in before the people who would sell an organ to get a Hilux but thumb their noses at this |

WOuldn't buy one because like most people, I don't need a truck. Cheaper to rent one, or pay delivery.

i am afraid i don't know anything about their vehicles, but their tractors are awesome. i've read that they recently overtook deere in world market share. the 4530 and 5530 series are sure nice.

I've got a buddy who bought a Mahindra Tractor years ago. I was merciless, and we still laugh about his "Mahindu", but that tractor is still running strong, and I'd probably buy one myself.
assuming reliability is good and the price reasonable it might just be the ticket.
Holy crap, they're stating a 2,600 lb payload capacity on those little things...
if I could get a new compact diesel pickup in 4x4 that didn't need a new tranny at 100k for less than 20 grand, I'd buy it.
If they make them as well as my Mahindra tractor, then I say it would be GTG.
Although, admittedly, my 2615 HST, is actually a mahindra branded Mitusbishi engined tractor that has in previous branding lives been a Cub Cadet and International or Case (I can't remember which). |
2.2 liter, 4 cylinder diesel engines? I don't know. Maybe, if I actually wanted to buy a newer truck for some reason. I'm pretty much an older truck guy these days though. I'd much rather buy an older Ford F-150 with a straight 6, flat out and put a little into it than waste more money on a new truck that will depreciate as soon as I take it off the lot and not do anything more for me than the older F-150. I'm going to have to vote pie. Pie is always good. |

I voted no. I'd wait and see how good they are for a few years before considering it.
My main question is how is the maintainability on these? If they can make one in 4wd that won't wear out in 100k I woudl be interested.

I heard a year ago that they were going to start importing the Mahindra's... I'd buy one if I was in the market for a truck.

Diesel correct? Yes, and ridiculously heavy payload capability. Think 16-18 gun and rocket wielding Taliban. That's how they roll. |

If it wasn't ugly and had 4 doors... yes. There is a 4-door. Define ugly? Do you mean real ugly like the Dodge RAM ugly, or just Chevy/GMC ugly? |

It gets 30mpg highway and has a 19 gallon tank. You could go quite far in that thing.

As those have said above, if it has:
4x4 Manual Diesel 4 door more compact than the bloated Taco Less than $20K Some kind of realistic warranty I would sell my Frontier and buy one tomorrow. I like the fact that it is hideously ugly. However, I think they are substantially more than $20K, and IIRC you can't get the manual and the diesel together in the US (yet). I wonder how hard it would be to get parts. |

A friend of mine is a GM dealer and he has signed up to be a Mahindra dealer in Cincinnati . The history of the company is interesting. They started by making Willy's Jeeps in India. The vehicles are high efficiency diesels. As I understand it, the dealership franchises are being sold but the arrival of the vehicles keeps being delayed. I pretty sure the original start/arrival date was the end of 2009, then mid 2010, now delayed again. Initially the vehicles are going to come from India and then eventually be manufactured here.

Sorry wish I could have taken a pic unlike everyone on the planet my phone is a phone not a multi tool.
Let me say first off my biggest gripe was I had to take the owner with me who would not shut up while I was trying to have some fun, and I have never been on the right side of a truck while driving. He let me take it to a little off road spot near his house. (If you live in the in the DFW area of north Texas keep an eye out Keller and Denton HWY area). When I was stopped I didn't even know I was in a diesel. It was a little stiff but really what do you expect from a small 1 ton. The shift pattern was a little odd to me but I guess if you have ever been over seas it might not be to bad. Yea I ground the gears some I didn't mean to I promise, but other than that no shift problems as far a s I could tell. There was no smell of coolant or oil or anything there should not have been. There was no reason to turn the AC or the heater on it was a nice day. To me it felt a little more compact than a ranger more like one of those big hunting four wheelers, OK with me I like to lean on my door, but foot room as good easy to hit the each pedal. The steering was a little sloppier than I would have liked. I would like to see a little easier take off. VERY comfy in the seat! The motor is TINY you could put a midget under the hood and close it and he would have plenty of room to work on it. It dose have a power point no cigarette lighter (I'm OK with that i just quit). There is something about it that makes it feel lighter but not so light it makes you worry, the doors are definitely not like the one on a US made small pick-up. I guess all in all No its not a shrunk down F-250 but its a damn solid truck to test the waters with. Remember this truck is more or less for Mahindra to test the US market they have much nicer cars, trucks, and options for us later if this first run works out alright. |
Sounds like it would make a nice tow vehicle for the boat, jet skis and utility trailer.

I've been working with them on setting up a service concept for the US. As with most things coming from India, they are somewhat disorganized at this time. Originally they were going to be sold in 2008. Here it is mid 2010 and we still don't have a set date. They seem to be a good vehicle...if they ever get to selling and servicing them in the US.

Aren't the Indians a haggling culture. That may be MSRP, with street prices in the mid teens.
IIRC, the Mahindra tractors a very competitively priced (as in cheaper than anybody else.). And the tractors have a good rep. |
Mahindra was a builder of Willys jeeps way back in 1945, the tractor side has had relationships with International Harvester and most recently Ford. They have also done a jv with Ford in 1995 IIRC to make a EU Escort version. They've been around for a while and actually make a quality product. |
