I've seen quite a few .40S&W rounds shot out of .45ACP 1911 style guns and never saw a rupture like that.  Just split cases and rounds going downraneg at a much reduced velocity.  I thikn that was a reloading Malf.

I call BS on the 40 S&W in a .45 acp!!!!

If I were to put a 40 S&W in my .45 it would just slide right on out the barrel case and all!!!!

Same as a Nine Mil does if you put it in a 40!!!!!!

Look at the second picture there is a shell caseing stuck in the chamber, and the jacket amd bullet stuck in the end of the barrel!    Maybe undercharged cartridge bullet doesn't exit, gas builds up(KA-BOOM)blown barrel!!   A 40 cal case wouldn't even have seated in chamber!

You have to hold pistol upright and drop a shell into pistol to even hope that the shell would be struck by fireing pin!!!

A .45 ACP extractor can hold a .40 tight enough to allow the firing pin to light the primer.  I saw a Para do that once.  It was fed from the mag too!  A friend mixed a .40 in with his .45's and didn't pay attention when loading the mags......

I think possibly what happened is that in this case the Colt chambered the .40 and tossed it halfway down the barrel.  Operator does a Tap/Rack thinking a round didn't chamber and then lights a .45ACP right up the ass of the .40.
