Well, daughter just did. Came back out of the kitchen singing that old Disney song A Pirates Life for Me." Then she asked me if there was a pirates life for me.

"No"

"Why not?"

"Cause I was born two hundered years too late."

She started laughing. She got it. What a girl.

Well, then who are those bozos running around the Pacific around the PI and Malaysia, stealing ships and killing people? [devil]

One of the jobs I've applied for is to help get rid of these jerks.  Please, God, let me at 'em!

I watched it today, I liked it...

Have any of you rode the ride at Disneyland, Pirates of the Caribbean?

When I was a kid I loved that ride, well if you watch through the movie, you can see scenes from the ride, being played out, thought it was cool.....

I gave up trying to explain all the references (like the dog with the keys) to my wife who hasn't been on the ride.

I caught most of the little injokes and references. Good movie. I'm told it's very much like the old swashbuckling movies of the 30's through 50's.

I couldn't help thinking, when they got to the town that was being looted by pirates(after they steal the ship) "Man, those sailors know how to party".

Too bad most of the good parts about the ride POC have been politicaly corrected.
They don't drink, chase women, or shoot guns.

"It was for the children."

Actually they still shoot guns and drink, Although the chasing women is now backwards... the women chase the men because the pirates were stealing food or something to that effect.

That was one of biggest piece's of PC crap I have ever seen.

Still have an old postcard with a picture of the pirate being chased by the ugly girl
"Avast there poor Albert
A seaman first class
Stout hearted in battle
but shy around a lass"
Link Posted: 12/27/2003 8:30:16 PM EDT
Walking on the bottom in an upside down dinghy was done in "The Crimson Pirate" starring Burt Lancaster.  Which was a spoof of the genre.
Link Posted: 12/27/2003 8:32:02 PM EDT
Thanks DrFridge, I thought I read that.
I looked and it is only the women chasing the pirates.
It's the Jungle Boat trip where the guide used to shoot at the hippos, now they don't do that anymore.

We watched this POS on Christmas Day - another movie I am glad I didn't pay to see at a theater.

Okay, I'll admit I thought the "moonlight" effect on the cursed sailors was interesting the first bazillion dozen or so times.  But, there has to be another way to "kill" them than a drop of blood and 800 some odd gold medallions returned to a box - like maybe return the gold to the Aztecs to complete the circle.

The Union Jack on a black field was plain stupid without further explanation.  Inside jokes are lost on viewers that haven't been to "feed the mouse"; maybe not the best strategy for popularizing a movie.

Well, that was a bunch of comment about a movie that sucks.

More of a comment on your taste than the movie, I think.

This was one of the few movies that I've seen in the theater recently... both the wife and I enjoyed it...  Depp's role was well played.

Oh, man, I'm so sorry.  I just stood in line for it once, and that looping recording started driving me nuts!

Maybe this'll bring back some memories:

I'm not a big fan of Depp's politics, but I got a kick out of him in the movie... and, it got even better when I heard he used Keith Richards as his inspiration for his body language and movements...

Two thumbs up for this one. I enjoyed the references to the ride. Heck, I enjoy the ride. Depp played the part of a likeable rogue, an honorable thief very well. The part was on par with Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday in "Tomstone". There should be an Oscar nomination for Depp at least. The resemblance to Keith Richards is unmistakable.

Commodore - "You're the worst pirate I've ever heard of"

Capt. Jack Sparrow - "But you have heard of me"

Bill Turner Jr. - "I'd kill you in a fair fight"

Capt. Jack Sparrow- "Where's the incentive in that?"

Hehe, the worst part was learning to say "How many?  Seven?  Three in row one, four in row two..." in Spanish and Portugese...
