PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- A Florida judge has ordered a retired couple to pull up their carpet -- from their front yard.

Steve and Mildred Nadwairski have covered their lawn with multicolored swatches, because they say they've had no luck with grass seed or landscape logs.

They also say spending $250 for sod is too much.

Steve Nadwairski says he didn't think it was written anywhere that you couldn't have carpet on your front lawn.

But, it turns out Pasco County in western Florida has an ordinance forbidding the collection of "public nuisance items" such as junk cars and appliances.

A prosecutor says old carpet fits the bill.

The neighbors seemed to be pleased with the ruling. One says the carpeting -- which is wet all the time -- looks "nasty."

Talkm about Hillbillys!
If they dint want to buy sod...
they could of just let the weeds grow in and mow that!

Hell if its green who cares weeds look the same as grass from the road anyway just mow it and its all good. Did they not like walking throgh the mud... around the refrigerator... by the dog chained to the P/U... slipping on the old car hood in the yard to get to the steps of thier single wide?

That house is 3 miles from my grandma's house.  It's tacky as hell but I'm perfectly fine with it, it is their yard.

The things old folks will do to save a few pennies...

Dealing with some obscenely cheap senior-citizen customers at work, I can feel for the neighbors too..

Then again, if I had a house, I'd be the first to go with pavement or gravel, just because I HATE !@%^!#^ MAINTANANCE-INTENSIVE GRASS. You have to mow it, water it, edge it, pamper it, and all so you can have a green splotch in front of your house...

I used to process health insurance claims, and I'm amazed that old people can even afford to survive at all.  I can certainly understand why they're purse-pinchers.
