A nonprofit group that provides substantial financial support to the National Mall says the Jefferson Memorial and other monuments to the Founding Fathers will be updated to reflect their personal records as slave owners.
In the wake of a deadly clash in Charlottesville between white supremacists and radical leftwing protesters including Black Lives Matter and Antifa, the president of the Trust for the National Mall in Washington, D.C. says “the physical symbols of American history and democracy will be scrutinized and challenged” in the near future. “Recent events only reinforce the need for an open, inclusive and safe space for Americans to exercise their First Amendment rights and to gather in pursuit of our shared ideals — life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all,” wrote Catherine Townsend in a letter to supporters, reports the Washington Examiner. “I hope you will join us as we steward private support to implement modern and resilient solutions that can transform this dynamic space and preserve the historic legacy of the National Mall.” View Quote |

Private funds to alter it to show he owned slaves? Instead of my tax money to just haul it away like happened here?
Fine by me. |

Holy s*** this is getting out of hand I swear to God people are having mental breakdowns

I want to set up a GoFundMe account to raise money to build a monument memorializing all those brave Africans who fought both men and the environment, and surmounted all the odds to capture enemy tribesmen and sell them to the slave ships. Who's with me?

All the libbies at work yesterday started going on about the Antifa bullshit and the evil right.
I finally got fed up, said what right? Commies on one side, leftist Nazi socialists on the other. They both need to be destroyed. ....silence. |

"There's a letter on my desk from the President...Sally, be a lamb, darlin', won'tcha open it?"
Oh, it says he doesn't give a shit about this? Great. |

Time to raise money to alter MLK Jr statues to reflect he was against homosexuality

What will anyone do when they dynamite Jefferson and Washington from Mount Rushmore, just like ISIS has done in the ME?
That is where we are headed. Ignore the obvious at your peril. As Jeff Cooper said, "The past is another country, they do things differently there". Apparently so...... |

Never interrupt and all that.
This is nothing more than virtue signalling and preaching to the choir. It changes nothing in their favor while irritating rational people. So go for it. Who cares. My message to them is this: go crazy, draw dick pics and swastikas all over them if it makes you feel better, but know that it won't win you even a single vote. |

"Prior to joining the Trust, Townsend developed her own consulting practice, providing coaching and resource support to non-profit CEOs/Executive Directors. She has served as the President and Executive Director of the DC Public Education Fund, the independent non-profit that raises private funds for progressive initiatives to improve student outcomes in DC Public Schools. Townsend has also served as Senior Advisor at Townsend Public Affairs (a family-owned business) and launched the Federal office in Washington, DC in 2008."

Jefferson's slaves loved him and didn't want to leave even after being freed...how will they explain that...Stockholm Syndrome?

Altered to emphasize slave ownership? What's the point of that?
"HEY GUYS! YOU CAN OWN SLAVES AND STILL GET THIS COOL MEMORIAL!" |

If you can't find anything legitimate to make you a victim in the age of "We'll give you free housing, food, cell phones, Internet, and maybe even cars", then dig up something that ended 150 years ago.

I guess I'll head over there this week one last time so I don't need to see the new changes.

Jefferson Memorial To Be Altered to Emphasize Slave View Quote |

The whole point is to make Black people feel like they are second class citizens and need the support and protection of the left to get by. The left will display soft bigotry through low expectations of Black people.

History already shows Jefferson was a slave owner. Why must it be emblazoned on the monument? I guess SJWs can read anything more complicated than "See Dick Run".

They don't need to tear down our national monuments, they need only to co-opt their meaning to present a false historical narrative just as they have done with "current events" as reported in the media.

You know I'm not sure yet how I feel about all this BS but I do believe, if anything, this will drive a lot of people further to the right. Those that might have been on the fence and/or those that were already slightly right will now be full blown about it. So that's one positive to come out of all of this.

Political correctness has lent an megaphone to an otherwise insignificant demographic, and now they are shouting their grievances from the rooftops expecting to guilt the majority into caving to their ridiculous demands. Its working. How sad and pathetic.

Did you know Jefferson paid his slaves? Standard practice, actually. Performing extra duties (cleaning stables, privies, taking care of the animals, etc), selling gardened food to the house (the food the slaves grew was theirs by right otherwise), working in profit-generating enterprises (principally the smithery)... all would get you cash money from The Man.
In fact, the slaves who helped clean the privies were each paid better than the (literate, white) schoolteacher. Granted, Jefferson was a shitty businessman, and he never could get his balance sheet right, but that's another matter. The point is, slavery was a symbiotic relationship, and provided more for both parties than either could attain on their own. More than that, it was essential. At least, at the time. Sure, it wouldn't last another 100 years (and laws against it would be in place within 20), but at the time of the founding of this country, there simply wasn't a better system available to take its place. This isn't whips and chains like on Roots. It was a whole bunch of people just trying to survive, and mostly treating each other pretty decently - all things considered. Life was hard as hell before the industrial revolution. It's practically a miracle any progress was made at all. I don't approve of their methods from a modern perspective, but I'm not so stupid as to think they had a plethora of other options. You gonna put all that nuance on the monument? At what point do you just say, "Look, if you want to know more, read some fucking books." |

So one woman died by a hater and the left thinks it is time to tear the past down. I can only imagine what this nation would look like if a truck load of them were killed.

Obviously these people can't concentrate long enough to read history. We need to send them to some kind of camp where they could learn those skills.

And that's too bad. Slavery was possibly the biggest mistake America ever made. You don't say all men are created equal and then say but check out my bitchin new slaves. It's a farce. View Quote |
