The 232 and 258 inline 6 cylinders were first offered in the 1972 CJ5. I'm not certain, but I think the first year for the disk brake and power steering options was 1976. If you are looking for a CJ, I would recommend the 1976-1986 models as they are the most common, tend to be in better condition, and enjoy wider aftermarket support.

The pre-76 jeeps have a better rear end(Dana 44,after 75,jeeps came with the two piece spline AMC rear ).What Boomer said is true,pre-76s have different windshield, frame is easily broken, only ones I could find were Taiwan manufacture.Best bet,buy a jeep from the south,as jeeps are serious rusters(and whatever you do,don't drive it on a beach!)
