This stuff drives me nuts just about the same as emminent domain. Private individuals trying to tell property owners what they can or cannot do with their property.

Biltmore attorney's submit documents to demolish historic hotel

BELLEAIR, Florida (AP) -- As preservationists campaign to save a historical hotel in the Tampa Bay area, the hotel's attorneys are submitting documents to the town to demolish the 108-year-old historic landmark. The National Trust for Historic Preservation says the Belleview Biltmore Resort and Spa is at risk of being demolished to make room for condos.

The hotel is known as "The White Queen of the Gulf" and sits on 21 acres of land on Clearwater Harbor.

But the preservation group says its owners have applied for permits to demolish the hotel to make room for houses and condominiums on the site.

Town officials had said the initial demolition permit application filed was incomplete and
inconsistent.

DeBartolo Development has a contract to purchase the Biltmore.

At Wednesday's Town Commission meeting, the developer will present conceptual plans for the property.
