It is disheartening. I agree. When I first got online a good friend of mine spoke of online ettiquette and said a wise thing: He said, treat others and chat with them as if they were in the same room with you. Otherwise don't say anything to anyone that you wouldn't say in person. Good advice. The people who treat people like shit online wouldn't have the sand to do so in person for fear of getting their ass kicked. Do what I do about it, don't engage with a person who flames you, just act as if they never posted. Ignore them and their posts forever from that point on. here's some good advice...something you might hear in a smoky church basement on a tuesday night around 7:30 or 8:00pm
"Take what you like, leave the rest". Pretty simple, really. Here's some advice...post in the AR-15 forums...spend a little time talking about guns, which is the real purpose of this site You'll see a whole lot less "assholiness" there than you will in the general board. But when you post something that looks like trolling in the GD, you're gonna get stomped. Personally, I think they should lock the GD to noobs, 'til they have at least 100 posts about gun related stuff...so just be glad I'M not running things.

The truth was just out of your reach and you missed it by this much.
There are people here - you chose 25% who post - as Zen said - as if they were sitting across the dinner table. They and good to be with, enjoyable to converate with - even when you disagree with them. I have found merit in some people's arguments that I don't agree with. Then there are the others - you chose 75% who are abrasive, abusive, rude, foul, and assholes. I haven't personally met any of these folks face-to-face as I have many of the Washington State and Southern California people who post here. Knowing someone face-to-face raises the level of respect that someone has for the other. I try to treat everyone with equal respect (or dis-respect) as best I can but there are some people that are such assholes it's hard.Rather than having your account deleted why not hook up with some of the 25%ers and go shooting, shoot some cans, shoot some shit, have a barbeque and get to know some of these people you just put down. And when it comes down to it - it is just the Internet and any resemblence to real live is only an accident. |

Uhm - if you are referring to your "outsourcing" thread (which I didn't post in, btw) you'll notice that there WAS a substantial conversation going on about the mertis of the arguments (with some namecalling "noise" overlaid on that). The problem is that your fundamental argument was weak, that many of your examples were flawed, and that the solutions you suggested very vague and often didn't make any sense. There was nothing wrong with the "conversation" but you just had a poor position. So if you're saying that you don't want to hang out on a site where people won't let you get away with making weak and unsupported arguments, then that's your choice - and indentifies you a big whiny baby. If on the other hand, you can handle the facts that (a) you are not always right, and (b) some people on this site may be more knowledgable than you about thing you think you understand, and (c) people will disagree with you, then you shoudl absolutely be part of the conversation. It's all up to you. Are you a big baby, or are you able to stand on your own and participate? |

You will not be the fist person who can't take the pressure, myself I have had to push my keyboard away and go outside because I got pissed of ove what somebody said, but that doesn't mean that the site is full of assholes, it just means that nobody is going to kiss your ass, and agree with everything you say. If you feel strongly enough about something you had better be ready to defend it when those who don't agree attatck your idea.
I would rather be a liberal on this board than a Ricer, if you want to really get this board stirred up, tell them you like huge mufflers on Hyundais, I am not a river but had to go 12 rounds last night defending the rights of Ricers to customize thier cars however they want. And by the way I am not a ricer, I do not like riced out cars. |
