Thanks a lot Obama!

Yup.

Physical media shipping went up a buck a couple months back too, which was my thing. It never costs 4 bucks to mail a CD or a DVD in a padded envelope!

And now that they're gonna build something in FL, I'm gonna have to pay sales tax too.

Prime for the win.

Went prime. Best deal going if you order often. Also the streaming is pretty sweet on my PS3.

Yeah when we got hit with the tax here it kinda sucked, but even with it tacked on I still usually pay less than if I went to the store and bought whatever it was I was getting. That's beside the fact that I live in a rural part of Pennsyltucky so even finding what I'm looking for in any store is usually a lost cause. New movies, sure; books that aren't by "popular" authors or older movies, not a chance in hell. So even with the tax I'm coming out ahead simply because I can actually find anything I'd be looking for.

They're building a facility in FL?

That's bound to hurt their sales a bit
Link Posted: 10/23/2013 6:31:15 PM EST
Sales tax is the least of my concerns when dealing with the awesomeness that is Amazon Prime.

Shopping in stores sucks raw ass.

Agreed. I had already lightened my purchasing from them after shipping went up.

I actually have a nearly daily political argument with that guy.
Well, the guy that does his voice, Garry Chalk is the dude I argue with. I had no idea who he was, until I found out he was an actor from one of our members here, who's timeline we argue with him on. I was fine with it until I found that out and looked up his IMBD thing or whatever. In my mind I hear THAT voice. It's hard to argue with a huge machine. Trust me. lol

Then I found out he was in a ton of excellent movies, tv shows, and played some good characters, like Col Chekov on Stargate GS-1, He Man, Sky marshal Wade on Voltron, Pathfinder on GI Joe, among many others.

It's hard calling Optimus Prime a liberal twat, but somehow I manage.

OK< back to the regular discussion.

I don't find it too hard to believe that Glorious leader's death care is causing companies like Amazon and their shippers to raise prices.
Link Posted: 10/23/2013 7:12:28 PM EST
The trick with taxes is to have a friend in a state without a shipping center send things to you as a gift.

Don't worry.

After the new year, I think they passed a bill that makes all online retailers charge sales tax.

Eh, it's lasted for about 3 years now. Eventually they'll raise the cost to where it's not that good a deal but it's held steady for a while now.

What really sucks is when I wanted to order something today and it was $34.98 !!!! .......so I kept shopping and found another for $34.99 !!!!
That got me really pissed that I was going to pay $10.00 shipping over a stinking penny or two.....so I didn't buy it.

Amazon should have taken that into consideration and made $34.95 as the mimimum.

I have a list of small items, usually less than $5, that I can buy to bring my total up. Just make it as a wish list in Amazon for quick use.

Another vote for Prime.

We needed another air conditioner last year in the middle of a drought. I tried to hold out, so the local stores were all barren by the time I caved. Prime over-nighted a 15,000BTU air conditioner to my front door for $4, and I didn't pay sales tax!

Sudden need for a medical device. Ordered it on Fri at 18:00. Order processed in TN. Delivered to my front door, in WI, before noon, on Sat, for $9 shipping, no tax.

With user uploaded pictures, reviews, the ability to ask reviewers questions, broad selection, an easy return policy, no tax, and subscription shipping Amazon gets a lot of our business. The streaming content is a bonus on top of an already good deal.

If they started charging tax, or jacked up the cost of a Prime membership, we'd stop shopping with them and revert to being more frugal.

This. I just save a few items to my cart and buy them when I need the filler. My average Amazon order is probably $80 anyway so it doesn't bother me much.
