and the world would have forever been different. What would have happened if...
1. The Persians defeated the Greeks in 480 B.C. and prevented the establishment of Greek culture and it's unique concepts of government? The Eastern powers did not even have words that were equivalent to the greek words "freredom" and "citizen."
2. Christ was spared the crucifixtion? What if Pontius Pilate followed his personal intuition and not the will of the crowd? What if Jesus was released and lived to old age?
3. Gengis Kahn had not died in 1242 and the Mongol hordes continued their advance into Europe? They were within eyesight of Vienna when they got the news and returned for his funeral.
4. China discovered the New World? China under the Ming Dynasty had the most advanced Navy in the world. They had the means to make the successful voyage by the mid 1400s but expeditions were scaled back due to worries of internal security.
5. Hitler had not violated his non aggression pact with Russia in 1940? England would have eventually lost their war of attrition. The Allied forces would have been forced to seek terms with the Nazis. Hitler and Stalin would control much of the world with Hitler as the dominant force.
6. Lord Halifax negotiated with Rudolf Hess and England made peace with Germany in 1940? Hitler would have been free and able to concentrate on the Russian invasion with all his resources.
7. Japan did not attack Pearl Harbor? Without provocation, would the US had entered the war? What if Japan sought raw material from her Axis partners?
8. D-Day failed? What if allied forces stalled on the beaches in 1944 and failed to breach the Atlantic Wall?
9. If Chiang Kai Shek defeated the communist forces under Mao? Without the brutal cultural revolution, would China today be a major industrial/economic superpower?
10. The Cuban Missle Crisis went hot? What if there was a limited nuclear excahange?
Anyway, that is MY top ten of things that could have gone the other way.

As for #7, Japan did recieve quite a bit of help from their Axis partners, including several hundred pounds of uranium ore. Not enough to make a fission bomb but more than enough to make a dirty nuke.
Lukily, that Nazi sub never made it to Japan. They ended up surrendereing to the US navy. Germany also gave Japan blueprints for the ME-262 and the best jet engines at the time from Italy. The Japanese version of the ME-262 was never really used, I think a few ended up as Kamakazi bombs. They incorporated all the research the Germans had accumalted up until the end of their war and added in a few Japanese inovatations and top notch Italian jet engines making it faster and more manuverable that the original ME-262.
Had the war gone on another 6-12 months, they could've possilbly had air supperiority over Japan. And they also could have used their new 6 engine transcontinental bomber to spread their biologicals and dirty nukes all over the west coast. Truman was right in ending it ASAP.

5. The russians would have eventually invaded Germany. IIRC, they planned on doing it, just werent ready when hitler invaded
6. The russians would have won anyway. Germany lacked the manpower, and was strung out when it reached moscow. the russians were winning with minimal US?GB assistance
8. Russia would have still defeated Germany, and dominated all of europe in the cold war.
9. China would be our closest ally maybe? we were more willing to help china during wwii than GB

Stalin would most certainly have attacked Hitler while he was trying to take Great Britain.
Great Britain declaring peace with Germany? This would have been very interesting.
If Churchhill had died, this could have happened. With England out of it, I imagine the US would only fight Japan. I could also see anti-Communist forces in America demanding neutrality in the Russo-German war.
I don't think Normandy was as important as others do, we still could have invaded through the South of France, Italy and the Balkans. The Soviets would have had more of Europe, but their casualties would have been twice as bad.
Very interesting topics. I would totally love a system that let me see those scenarios played out.
Patton & FDR are not as important as people think. The early deaths of Hitler, Stalin & Churchill would have made much bigger impacts on history.

When They Knock Down Your Front Door, How You Going To Come? With Your Hands On Your Head Or On The Trigger Of Your Gun?
Bassist Paul Simonon-The Clash |
This is one of the most significant events in recorded history (and for some reason it is hardly ever mentioned):
The Battle of Tours (at Poitters) which took place in 732 AD. Charles Martel (grandfather of Charlemagne) halted the muslim invasion which had come up the Iberian penninsula (Spain) via North Africa and was about to attack France. If France had fallen to islam all of europe would have been within striking distance. It's not possible to even fathom how that one battle changed history. We'd all be praying to allah....
This is getting a little off topic, but everyone seems to think christianity started the animosity with islam (the crusades). But in fact the muslims had attacked christian europe several centuries before the crusades began. Another interesting thing is how these wonderfully peaceful muslims (who, we are all being told by the media and our children are being taught in the schools, were such a civilized lot with such a superior society until the evil christians attacked them for no reason during the time of the crusades) had already taken over all of northern africa and most of spain. When the Battle of Tours took place, islam was only about 100 years old. Students are supposed to believe that islam had made it to the borders of FRANCE in 100 years in a peaceful way!? Just read what they did to the north africans on the way through... A great bunch of guys....
I always have to mention the Battle of Tours because noone seems to know about it.

He said total victory, so if Russia did join in, it would be total victory over Russia?

Now, had the South Won:
We would have Federal Gun Laws similar to those of Louisiana and Mississippi. Basically, we would be free to own whatever we wish and carry it whereever we please (Certian Places like Courts excepted)
Religion would still be part of society and crime would be dealt with by a public lynching. Criminals would be chased down and hanged or shot.
New Yorkers would be stopped at the Mason-Dixon and turned back before they got to Florida and created excessive traffic.
We would have enough intelligence to punch a damn a ballot. I voted in Broward and I know who I voted for (GW Bush).
Alcohol would be stronger and there would be no sin tax on beer.
The CS Capitol would be in Texas or Mississippi. It was originally in Alabama and Virginia. As America spread west, so would the Capitol.
Teaching a kid to shoot would be mandatory instead of being considered a right wing wacko.
etc....

If the Jap Nakajima 'Kikkas' (straight wing Me262 copies) did indeed ever fly, (last I knew they hadn't gone beyond static testing during the war, but it's been a while since I read up on aviation), then it's no wonder they ended up as kamikazes- it was probably unintentional, too, as the planes just suddenly fell out of the sky, like bombs....
