scam.  my dad told me this... anything that doesn't say "Dear <your name here>," is a scam.  Ebay and Paypal always use your name when referring to you in their emails.

always be wary though... something with your name in it could be fraudulent too - it's just guaranteed if your name is missing.

It's a scam called Phishing:

(fish´ing) (n.) The act of sending an e-mail to a user falsely claiming to be an established legitimate enterprise in an attempt to scam the user into surrendering private information that will be used for identity theft. The e-mail directs the user to visit a Web site where they are asked to update personal information, such as passwords and credit card, social security, and bank account numbers, that the legitimate organization already has. The Web site, however, is bogus and set up only to steal the user’s information.

From: http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/p/phishing.html

Expose the full headers of the e-mail:

http://www.spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/19.html

and forward the e-mail with full exposed headers to your Internet Service Provider's Abuse department.  This will help to track and stop the "phisher".

I get crap all the time warning me my msn account will be terminated unless I update such and such, same with my cable, cell phone, several credit cards, etc..

My general reaction is "good, go ahead and cancel the stinkin' thing", but alas, they never do.

Bottom line is I don't have any service that is so important that I can't live without it.

I get the same thing, and I don't have, nor have I ever used a PayPal account,

Paypal would NEVER send you that type of warning through email only. If they did actually send it to you, it would have your first name somewhere in it and probably wouldn't directly link you to their site.
