Netflix costs $10.66/month.  You can pay with an iTunes gift card if you have an Apple device, and iTunes gift cards are frequently 20% off.

I could save $2.13 a month, but I'd need to buy a cheap used older generation iPhone for about $15 on ebay.

After 7 months, I'd be saving money.

Is this being too frugal?

$2.13 a month x 12 months = $25.56

$25.56 a year x 1,000 years = $25,560 !!!!

In 1,000 years you could buy a transferable M-16 with all that monthly savings! Gotta look at the long term!

Ebay, most frequently.  At least twice a year, there are $100 iTunes cards for $80.  I buy them as gifts.

Must first sign up for Netflix using an iPhone, which I don't have.

https://help.netflix.com/en/node/25099

You can use an iTunes gift card to pay for Netflix if you first sign up for Netflix through an iTunes account on an Apple TV, iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

You're like the guy who steals the crappy paper towels from the bathroom at work to avoid buying the ones that actually work for home.

Don't be that guy.

Each to his own. If money is what it's all about for you, then do what makes you feel good.

I have a food bank next street over from me, $5 at the door and you get to fill a buggy or somsuch, can't say for sure as I've never actually been in.

The parking lot is always 50% or better Lexus and Mercedes and I'm not talking old ones.

For some folks, every grubbing nickel they can save is glorious I suppose.

For me, my time is precious and I suck at holding onto money.

I usually take which ever option is the least hassle without blowing my budget.

No cable TV for years.  I watch TV on a Roku with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Youtube.

It's not the absolute cheapest, but it's an order of magnitude cheaper than cable.

Still, if I can save 20% more, why not?

figure out your time and hassle for it and what your time is worth.  I am known for being flinty, but I don't think it is worth your time unless you have a lot of free time and or enjoy saving (which, like reloading is a value added thing to being a cheap SOB).

Yes because a person operating in that mode has exorbitant opportunity costs.  In the same time it takes to figure out how to save $2, someone could be thinking of a way to make $4 more dollars.  Net profit of $2.

It's an elementary version of: "The best investment someone can make is in themselves."

Free ketchup from the fast food store saved me $2.39.

Yeah, but you spent three hours squeezing all of those little packets into that old ketchup bottle.

Haha.

OP this seems a little over the top for me for the potential reward, but do as you please man. $100 over 4 years. I'm sure there is some area of your life that would be saving you more money.

Now buying Cabela's gift cards on ebay for 20% off to buy a gun that is already on sale, now you're talking savings.

How much is your time worth?  How much time does it take to save that money?  Figure out those answers and you'll know if it's worth doing.

For me the answer would be a resounding "no".
