Netflix costs $10.66/month. You can pay with an iTunes gift card if you have an Apple device, and iTunes gift cards are frequently 20% off.
I could save $2.13 a month, but I'd need to buy a cheap used older generation iPhone for about $15 on ebay. After 7 months, I'd be saving money. Is this being too frugal? |

No. Every penny you can save adds up. If you can do that with all your expenses you will notice more money in your account

$2.13 a month x 12 months = $25.56
$25.56 a year x 1,000 years = $25,560 !!!! In 1,000 years you could buy a transferable M-16 with all that monthly savings! Gotta look at the long term! |

What is this too frugal of which you speak? I Always figured my money looks best in my pocket.

You're like the guy who steals the crappy paper towels from the bathroom at work to avoid buying the ones that actually work for home.
Don't be that guy. |
|
Is it really worth the effort, and 7 month wait for a $2.13 a month profit?

Using both sides of the toilet paper is being too frugal, saving a few bucks on netflix isn't.

.
Bud, that is not frugal. Skipping the NETFILX altogether and listening to am radio is frugal......... . |

Each to his own. If money is what it's all about for you, then do what makes you feel good.
I have a food bank next street over from me, $5 at the door and you get to fill a buggy or somsuch, can't say for sure as I've never actually been in. The parking lot is always 50% or better Lexus and Mercedes and I'm not talking old ones. For some folks, every grubbing nickel they can save is glorious I suppose. For me, my time is precious and I suck at holding onto money. I usually take which ever option is the least hassle without blowing my budget. |

figure out your time and hassle for it and what your time is worth. I am known for being flinty, but I don't think it is worth your time unless you have a lot of free time and or enjoy saving (which, like reloading is a value added thing to being a cheap SOB).

Yes because a person operating in that mode has exorbitant opportunity costs. In the same time it takes to figure out how to save $2, someone could be thinking of a way to make $4 more dollars. Net profit of $2.
It's an elementary version of: "The best investment someone can make is in themselves." |

It isn't what I would do, but I'm frequently wrong.
More power to ya. |

I'm still trying to figure out why you pay $10.66 for netflix when it is only $9.99 a month?

Texas has sales tax on most things, but no state income tax.

That seems like an overly lengthy and convoluted plan to save a couple of bucks

View Quote OP this seems a little over the top for me for the potential reward, but do as you please man. $100 over 4 years. I'm sure there is some area of your life that would be saving you more money. Now buying Cabela's gift cards on ebay for 20% off to buy a gun that is already on sale, now you're talking savings. |

Seems like to much effort for the savings, but an old phone makes a good MP3 player when you don't want your good phone exposed to risks like pool, gym, car etc.

I buy gift cards at Giant eagle all the time for fuel perks and then use them to buy what I need.

The time you spent thinking about it, researching it, calculating it, and typing it out on arfcom negated any savings
|
|
I'd rather spend the 2 bucks and save myself all that hassle.
|

How much is your time worth? How much time does it take to save that money? Figure out those answers and you'll know if it's worth doing.
For me the answer would be a resounding "no". |
