I've tried Kazaa and Kazaa lite.  Don't care for them and don't want them.  Same goes for Bearshare.

Is there any filesharing software out there that doesn't install spyware on one's computer and is any good?

Does WinMX install spyware on your computer when you install it?

ETA, I know they advertise that they don't, but I sometimes advertising can be misleading.  So I'm asking those of you who know.

BearShare.  Comes with a little bit of spyware, but it's easily removed.

Also what are you trying to download, videos, music, etc?  Some seem to have more of one tpye then others.

Watch out for the spyware guys, it can get REAL nasty.

At least use Mozilla if you are running this software.

Limewire. Get it, use it, be happy.

You have to think outside the "Napster" box here. Try Internet Relay Chat. The best client for that is prabably mIRC
Also, don't forget about binary news groups like alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.rock, alt.binaries.warez, etc. There are lots of them. Probably the best newsgroup reader is Forte` Agent.
The quality of mp3s is consistently better in the newsgroups than you'll find anywhere else.

Direct Connect is actually one of the biggest filesharing utilities in existance.  Beware, though...it does have a bit of a learning curve.  It is also 100% clean of spyware/adware.

+1 for WinMX.

Not as fast as Kazaa, but safer.

No one else uses shareza? Not sure if I spelled it right...this is also a tag. It allows/manages torrent d/l's too.

I use 'Limewire', it's the 'mutts nuts' … been using it for years without worries. No spyware or any of that crap.

I've had pretty good luck with BitTorrent for large files like movies and TV shows.

The Gnutella network seems to work pretty well for smaller files and hard to find stuff. There are dozens of clients for it, Limewire is one of the popular non-spyware ones.

And don't discount IRC and Usenet either.

There's also Hotline, but I haven't been able to get much from them in a while.
