I am rather new here, but have already enjoyed many of the posts. I wanted to search for a specific topic, but I can't locate the 'Search' utility. Probably, I'm not looking in the right place.
Is there not a SEARCh utility available here similar to those in "thehighroad.org", or "battlerifles.com" or "falfiles.com" or "hkpro.com", et al? I know, I must be blind, but where is it?
You need to be a paying member to get the search function. See membership options above and all will be clear.
Don't get me started.
LETS GET READY TO RUMMMMMBLLLLLE
You will save well more than the $20.00 it costs to be a member in no time at all. The information gleaned here will save you lots of time, aggravation and actual money by giving you the base of knowledge to make informed decisions based upon the vast experiance of the entire board here. At $20.00 at year its a great bargain, not to memtion the friends and family you will gain here.

If it is offered, I will pay. It has never been about the money.
I haven't read it myself, but I heard you stole a page from the Klinton Campaign manual in regards to my threads. I.E. Promote a socialist program (pay to search), then use personal attacks against anyone (me) who disagrees with it. I won't tell Hillary, however.
Also, Hiram, I probably won't be able to reply to your hateful remarks since I don't have "my active"
Actually markm, you'd fit right into a Clinton program. It's called welfare. You obviously have the welfare crying down pretty good.
It's just like America...you get what you pay for. Anything else is charity or welfare, depending on how you act and ask.
IBTEL..In before the eventual lock.

For a guy that has 2500+/- post in 23 months, I'd say that you get plenty of free mileage out of this website.
Don't pay if you don't want, I don't believe that anyone is forcing you too.
(BTW, have you ever asked the Avila's what you can do to help them with the expenses they incur due to bandwidth costs, since they provide this site to us "Free" - Or are you one of those folks that believes that they deserve everyhing that everone else has just because God put them on this earth?)
Actually, the loss of the Search function just means that I'll be spending even less time here than before, and that I won't be able to assure the courtesy of a response to anyone who comments on my posts.
This probably isn't any great loss to AR15.com, but if any of the more knowledgable posters decide not to pay up, then the content of the site will suffer.
Yes, visitors to this site can contribute CONTENT even if they don't contribute $'s.
Publishers of technical journals have been faced with the same dilemma: library subscriptions don't cover all the publication costs, so they raise journal prices and publication charges, which forces libraries/authors on fixed budgets to reduce the number of journals they subscribe/submit to, which lowers the publisher's income, which causes them to raise journal prices...
Loss of the search function will also greatly reduce the attractiveness of this site to new or casual visitors; this is a bad policy if you want to hook new users to replace the losses due to normal attrition ("the first one's free little girl...").
I enjoyed lurking and learning by searching the archives for quite a while before I made my first post.
At least that helped me avoid starting off by asking "which is better: the AR15 or the AK-47?"
I suspect that if the Search function isn't restored that you'll see plenty of first posts along these lines in the future.
I logged over 1000 posts here in the "new" forum and who knows how many on the old before I signed up as a member. When I signed up, the cost was $60.00. I felt it was about time I help contribute to the place, seeing how I've gotten quite a lot out of it.
To join or not, that is a personal decision everyone must make for themselves. But lets take a look at a few things..
Since a lot of us here started back in the "old" forum, this place has really grown.
There are now [red]31,255[blue]*[/blue][/red] members!!! [shock]
That is a lot of people using the website. web bandwidth costs money. With the amount of people on now, there is a whole mess of bandwidth being consumed. I know of no one legally on the web for free. Someone somewhere is paying for it. (unless you're al whore, the inventor)[rolleyes]
Try and host your own website with the kind of service ARFCOM has, it will be painful on your wallet.
GB made a hard decision, and I'll stand beside him for making it.
lets put membership cost into numbers people can digest...
basic (Bronze) AR15.com [blue]TEAM[/blue] membership is $20 / year
$1.67 / month
$0.39 / week
$0.05 / day
(numbers are approximate due to rounding up/down)
just compare those numbers with things you buy.
ARFCOM is good value! [:)]
So if we join and pay will you remove the advertising on this site?
That is how the other boards pay for it.
Besides I would gladly give up the IM for the search function.
You will drive away the regulars who get bored with the same questions asked every day by new people.
And the new people won't join when the get flamed for not "searching" before posting.
Every other webboard I have been to has a search function except this one.
There are alot of features I can do without,
to name a few, but with out search it plain sucks, I have gone to other boards and found the same info because they have a search function.
Yes, there are 31,000 members and how active are they?
I will not pay to belong to a site that also gets ad revenue, If you want me to look at your ads and go to your advertisers websites (Which I do quite often) then I will because it supports the site.
But I will not pay for the privilage of supporting your advertisers.

Yawn. Let me know how the boycott goes. In the mean time, try posting something that takes original thought for each post.
Edited to add...
I just used the **FREE** Google tool bar to search within AR15.com, works great.
