I wanted a sports car, something fast then I realized insurance would go up and I don't need tickets.I am thinking about a Tacoma. I have a Xterra now and I like it but it's getting old and I plan on driving it until I can put about 10k or more down on one but I plan on driving it until it dies (the tacoma). I looked locally and they seem to keep their value, about 10 years old and still over 10k. So. How are they? I am looking at a 2017 crew cab v6 trd off road. I like the frontier Pro 4X but they seem to be out of stock everywhere. They are like a pick up version of my Xterra

They are worth it. I spent a lot of time with one and the Colorado. I prefer the Colorado but tough to beat toyotas resale.

I just took delivery of my 2017 TRD-OR Double Cab a couple days ago.
So the honey moon hasn't worn off yet, but I'm loving it so far. And yes, my decision to go Tacoma had to do with: 1) High reliability ratings. 2) Slow depreciation curve 3) 4x4 and seats 5 4) I would probably still be driving it in 10 years. Many other vehicles I would have preferred for the fun factor, but pragmatism wins yet again. |

What did you like about the Colorado? I would love to get a tan or whatever color they call it. the 5 seats is a huge factor and I plan on keeping it for a long time.

They're decent around town type vehicles. Not suited to hard use, work, or a lot of off-roading.
Extremely overpriced. |

View Quote Well the interior is mich more comfortable. My hair hit the roof of the Tacoma and you can't adjust the seat height. The Colorado has much more leg room too. The engine has more power. The interior in the Tacoma looks nicer though and it's a much nicer looking vehicle overall. I think they look badass. I think my Colorado is kinda lame looking. |

Went from a 2006 Xterra Off-road to a 2015 Tacoma TRD. The Tacoma is far superior.

I love my 2012 DCSB V6 4x4. In don't need a fullsize and it takes me everywhere I want to go. |

I had an '06 TRD OR. Great truck. I got hit at an intersection last year and the truck was totaled... I did not hesitate to get another one. Now I have a '16 TRD OR. I really do like it. The 3rd gen interiors are much nicer than the 2nd gens. They are not big trucks inside. For what I use it for, it is perfect. My wife drives an Xterra...

Thanks, I will just have to choose between SR5 and TRD off road. I decked out my xterra for the trail bumper, rock sliders, skid plates , roof rack gobi ladder. I would more than likely get rock sliders and a bumper and just swap out the winch.

My last 5 vehicles have been toyotas, '16 Tacoma being the latest. Kept the tacoma for 7 months then sold it. I wasn't a fan at all of the new ones.

Cab 2.7L 4cyl 4x4 manual trans for my hour commute to work and then back again every day. It has a bench seat. Love it. Weekends I drive 3hrs to visit family and 3hrs back. It's one of the most comfortable seats I've had in a vehicle. Hard use? It's a 1/4-Ton truck. I haul a trailer filled with a 1/3 cord of wet firewood on my days off 3x every time. It's very close to the 3500 max towing it's capable of. It does it well. I often fill the bed with the smaller top pieces too. Hasn't been an issue. Guess where this all takes place? Off-Road! I pull down hung trees with this truck and a chain. It gets me in and out of the forest where ruts can be 2-3' deep and lots of mud. It does well. I'll admit it is lifted 3" with duratrec tires. It is a very capable truck and they sell at a high price because they do so very well. They hold their value while most other vehicles drop like a rock. As I said though it's not a Super Duty diesel, it's a QUARTER TON light truck. Keep it realistic and it works well. I put my truck through more hard work than most truck owners do. I love every day I use it. Wish I had bought one sooner. I have a 2013 2-door lifted wrangler as well. That's the "around town vehicle". Fun to drive but not much real work use at all. |

2015 TRD Sport, Double cab and long bed.
Other than a noisy fan bearing, it's been good for 40k so far. Replaced a '91 1500 with a 305 that was totalled. I like the handling of the Tacoma, but miss a full size truck. |

Unlike the big 3 ,with Toyota, you get what you pay for. |

Also, I'd bet a Ben Franklin that I could get VERY close to my purchase price if I decided to sell it. Almost every gardener/landscaper in SoCal drives a beat as fuck older Tacoma, sometimes an older tundra. Or the Tacoma fleet vehicles of whatever pest control company is around here that I always see. No sir, definitely not suited to hard use or work. Off road? No way! I heard the wheels will fall off if you take it off the pavement lol. |

I'm not a big guy but the tacoma felt way too small for me for a truck.
I went with an 16' F150 and am super happy with it. |

Does GREAT offroad with some decent tires. I've yet to get stuck even in horrible mud. Some of my job sites get torn up and everyone gets stuck in their big ass F250-350 diesels. I bet my salesman $50 that I would get it stuck the day after buying it. I lost despite TRYING to get stuck |

2013 dc4x4 Trd sport here, absolutely great. Get any accessories you want online at about half price though, have them take out the mats, all the crap, and just order it your self. I put the running bars, front plate, alarm, and a bunch of other Oem accessories for a fraction of dealer price.

If you're on Facebook, joint Toyota Tacoma enthusiast group. There are tons of guys/gals on there, but I'm noticing a lot more issues with the 2016/2017 trucks so you might want to wait a year or two for them to fins I working out the bugs. Seems to be crank sensor issues, along with trans issues that they issued the tsb for.

IMO a rear locking diff is a must for any vehicle that goes offroad - just as a precaution. I think it's worth it to go with the TRD. |

Shop around for the best deals. A new one can be had for 30k. Double cab TRD 4x4

definitely not worth it. I've only got 250,000 miles on mine, had to put brakes, tires, exhaust on it. changed the oil too. so sick of doing routine maintenance. I did get a small head gasket leak at 235k, A used motor was easier than the downtime of putting new head gaskets, so I swapped it. Other than that, i don't do anything to it.

Most of the issues were ironed out with the 17s Before ordering mine, I poured over all the bitch threads on TW about '16 Tacomas. It boiled down to this: 1) People bitching about things they could never substantiate or prove. 2) A few isolated QC issues that were obvious Workmanship or Material issues, all covered under warranty. Not widespread enough to worry about. 3) A couple minor, but widespread "issues" easily fixed yourself or under warranty and since corrected with TSB's. 4) One legitimate problem with the TCU programming for the A/T, also since corrected with a TCB. I ordered a '17 M/T. I have little worries that there will be problems, and even less that Toyota won't fix them if I do. |

second best truck Ive ever owned was a Tacoma, 150k trouble free miles and would go anywhere in 4x4. My 04 tundra has 200k on it and still going strong.
