If someone were bored and wanted to construct their own bumpfire type mechanism would there be any legal ramifications? What if that same someone thought machining out one of the position stops on a collapsible stock would be the easiest way to create a sliding stock, would that have any legal ramifications? It's all drawn up, the math is done and it looks like under calculated tolerances 30 rounds should be expended in 2 seconds flat. My only issue is legality. It would certainly be one trigger pull per round fired, so absolutely still semi automatic. On a side note I can play with full autos when I please so that's not the issue here.

Oh well,  Check this out

Don't write the ATF for clarification.

You mean like a Slide Fire stock?

EDIT: I re-read your post.  Sounds like you are talking about a slide fire stock and it's already been done

Really depends on the mechanism.

The ATF ruled the Akins Accelerator a MG because of a spring in the system.

Do not use any type of shoelaces either.

Sure, it's legal, just make it identical to the legal items available now and the ATF shouldn't want to love you tenderly.

However, if you fire some ducktape, chickenwire and popsicle stick version of the Slide Fire Stock in the presence of the wrong people at a range or within earshot of an "errrhmagherd automertic fierer" libtard, the ATF will become fairly interested in aforementioned tender loving (and they don't bring lube).

Pretty much, but I think I would like to machine out one slot in the buffer tube, and a small cut into the pistol grip and lower where the pistol grip screws onto the lower and use that as it's  ability to slide

If that is legal I don't understand why some reciprocating linear type of mechanism would be any different...

It's more about the machining and technical aspects then seeing it work then it is about a bumpfire.

Youre applying logic.

You cant do that with the ATF

Try it.  You'll either get a shitty full-auto effect or a prostate massage

Yes, it's legal.  I made my own.

Fostech did a really nice job with theirs though, I'm tempted to replace my bumpstocks with fostech stocks.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Now I just need to learn how to post my video.

Years ago, swingset posted a thread about his "bumpfire stick"

2x4 with a wooden dowel rod in it.   This was before any bumpfire stocks existed.

Just for grins, I copied his idea and made my own to try it out.   And yeah, extremely effective, but cumbersome.

Whereas before, I was only able to do 4 or 5 round bursts with the beltloop method, I ripped off a 30 round burst on my first try with the bumpstick.

So what.
Semi-auto has "already been done" too, but...

Why not just learn to bump fire without a sliding stock? AKs are a little easier than ARs but it can be done with both.

Whatever you come up with must first pass the underwater bumpfire test...
