Is it illegal to mount a bayonet?

<BR>

I don't know, but I bet it would hurt!

TECHNICALLY, I don't think it would be illegal to duct-tape a bayonet to a post-ban - but I'm not a lawyer, nor do I intend to test it

ETA: Never mind, I misunderstood your question

just make sure you are not using a single point sling when you sling it over your back

You can mount a boyonet on a pump shotgun. But not on anything that is semi-auto and post-ban.

It's only the bayo lug that's illegal... if you didn't have an actual lug, though.... hmmmm

How about a really sharp, pointy muzzle brake?
Link Posted: 8/19/2004 7:13:47 PM EST

82ndAbn, you are not talking about the bayonet lug right? You are asking about actually going outside with a bayonet attached to the shotgun or rifle, right?

If the second was the case, I would bet there is some law out there prohibiting it. If you want to find out, check your states firearms laws.

Well in a few weeks we wont have to worry will we?

I have never heard of or seen any law that stops someone from mounting a bayonet to a firearm for which it is legal to do so. I know there is no law in ohio, or federal. I don't think it's much of a deal to most people, the gun is far more dangerous than the pig sticker.

Look at guns like the M44 it's bayo is premanently attached , and is just moved into place. If you own a gun with a bayo lug you should own the bayo for it. It's kinda fun to throw the M9 on the Mossberg 590.

I got a bayonet for my Enfield .303.

I honestly don't care about being able to mount a bayonet on my "assault weapon" but to ban them seems silly. Drive by bayonettings are shall we say "rare"

Flash suppressors, I just don't understand why it was banned. It's not gonna effect criminal activity

There's a bunch of SKSs out there with bayonets permanently attached to them.

You can mount a bayo on anything that can legally have a bayo lug. The only exception that I am aware of would be Chinese-made SKS rifles. They can have the lug, but the ATF ruled that they could not have the bayos attached. As a practical matter, the front-line ATF guys could not care less.

If a weapon doesn't have a bayo lug, you can tape, glue, wire a bayo to it and be legal.

It's all about the lug. I am refering only to fed law. Your State mileage may vary.

In some states it is illegal to have in your possession a knife over a certain length or with a cutting edge on more than one side.

The ATF does not make laws, so if there is no Federal law or State law permitting it, the ATF can piss up a rope.

ATF =

Always have, always will.

Those bayonets rock! They are practically swords

Congress gave the ATF power to make rulings that have the force of law. It sucks but then they have all the power.

Just about everything is illegal in Kalistan. Except screwing animals...according to Alex Baldwin. You know, he can, cause he's an actor!

Where is the pic of Mr.Duke-Nukem with his duct-taped bayonet when you need it?

I think it is the lug, not the bayo itself.
