I know, I know, its not real "tracking" but the lame 1992 equivalent, but usually it gives you at least a daily update of wherever your package is....

I ordered something for Christmas on Monday, the online store said it mailed it USPS priority....

12/13/2010Pending

12/13/2010ProcessingOur warehouse is preparing your order for shipment.

We will notify you by email once your order has been shipped.

Item #1: ordered 1 x [Dave_A's Guide to Wimmenz]

(This shipment is to be insured.)

12/13/2010Order CompletedYour order has been completed.

It was shipped on Monday, December 13, 2010

via USPS Priority Mail, tracking number XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.

Item #1: shipped 1 x [Dave_A's Guide to Wimmenz]

(This shipment was insured.)

Yet the USPS website has been stuck showing this the whole time....

Label/Receipt Number: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Class: Priority Mail®

Service(s): Delivery Confirmation™

Status: Electronic Shipping Info Received

I'm guessing this is one of those times where maybe 5 days after the package is delivered that the USPS website will actually update?

Looks like you have Delivery Confirmation.
It only gets scanned when it's delivered.

While it isn't a tracking system, they try to pawn it off as one.
Set up as a delivery confirmation.
There's a reason why it's only an additional $.70

I am not talking about JUST their tracking system.

I ship to my customers, via USPS Priority Mail, exclusively.  I've never had a problem, and the Delivery Confirmation emails come in like clockwork.  I guess results vary.

USPS's tracking system is worthless year-round.  I ordered something from Amazon a while back.  My tracking number "hadn't been entered into the system yet" until after I got my package.

This.

It is NOT like Fedex or UPS tracking.

Except it (usually) updates daily and shows when the package hits hubs and terminals so you have a general idea of where it is and if its making it's way towards you...

Not USPS. What you're describing is UPS and FedEx.

It seems to be a moot issue to me.

Delivery Confirmation doesn't allow you to track it across the country.

It gets scanned when it gets delivered.

Period.

While I've seen the provision for service as you describe, I've never seen it work like that in practice.  It doesn't seem to matter what time of year it is either.

It's a shame that the overall organization is so full of fail, I've finally got a decent post office and letter carrier.  They can only help on our end though.

What you have there is workers doing their jobs.  95% of my packages from USPS that have Delivery Confirmation go in this order...Electronic Info Received > Processed Through Sort Facility > Delivered.  Additional scans at other facilities are nice but are NOT normal.  USPS is Delivery Confirmation only...NOT step by step tracking.

USPS apparently only updates their website at night - their tracking info is always a day behind.

"Electronic shipping info received" means that the shipper printed a label - they could sit on the package for several days before the USPS gets it if they wanted to.

Everytime I've tried using their 'tracking', it has been full of fail.  This is to include packages of PM's worth over 10K $.  In all cases I tried using said tracking after the promised delivery date had come and gone.  I even talked to a USPS human each time to no avail.  Fucking useless in my opinion.

Yeah, thats why I was curious if USPS's "tracking" is just really bogged down or if the seller really did just print out the label and is sitting around not sending the package...

Bax Global sucks.

Yeah yeah, I know DB in Germany bought Bax Gloabl worldwide and for the most part BAX knew there place. However in the US BAX didn't know their place and some how ended up running key departments while letting the Schenker people who had a freaking clue go. I mean BAX was only losing money(on the US side) like a stuck pig loses blood sure, let them run things.

Edit: you should have seen how some of the packages sent via internal transport would arrive to other offices(which is the same service as customers get but the offices do not pay for it). I mean if I were a customer and my electronic gear arrived in boxes abused so badly they disintergrated in transport I would be a litte more than pissed off. No wonder money was being lost.

Yep full fail this year. Placed an order over the weekend, shipped on Monday afternoon Priority Mail. USPS tracking page showed estimated delivery yesterday, but up till this morning their site showed the last package scan was somewhere in TX. Suddenly this morning USPS shows a package scan in my town at 9 am, but gives estimated delivery for tomorrow (Friday). Five minutes later I update the tracking page and it now says its out for delivery, yet still shows an estimated delivery for tomorrow. Postal carrier guy must be a real slow walker (maybe an extra zombie from The Walking Dead ) since the post office is less than half a mile away from my place.

I've had problems in the past with my local USPS office, mail carrier for my neighborhood sometimes tosses mail into the bushes, yes the bushes, rather than sort them into the mail boxes for my building. Or they will simply stuff (crumple) all the mail into one box rather than sorting it. Makes it real fun when they stuff it into someones box who's out of town for two weeks and we'd have to cut the lock off their box to get our mail. Made several complains to no avail.

Look at this one;

This was returned undeliverable on Tuesday, December 14 (after numerous calls & trips to the USPS demanding the package back).
