Currently on Dish network.  Curious about upgrading to HD service.  My TV is a 54" DLP and I think 1080i.

Is it worth the cost?

The cost worth is for you to decide.
I've had Dish Network HD since they only had one or two channels.
I have a 52" DLP that I bought almost four years ago simply to watch HDTV.
To me HD is it!  I don't even watch SDTV anymore so for me, yes it's worth it.
You'll have to sign up and decide for yourself whether it was worth it....

We upgraded our DN in early December, it was a one time $75 charge and $10 a month. We were told that we'd only be responcible for the $10 a month until the analog/digital switch and then the $10 a month goes away.

Its very worth it, especially if your a sports fan.

So there's no charge for it after the broadcast TV stations go to digital (except for the initial $75 set up fee)?

that seems strange as hell because the DTV switch won't effect satellite in any way.   Though that is capitalism at its best

Thats exactly what I said, my dad is the first one tell me about it and I called BS. I went to a very high end electronics store here in the DFW area called Star Power and the salesman there told me the same thing as did the tech that came out install the upgrade.

I dunno....we'll see.

"Why should I pay 10 extra bucks a month for something that the local broadcast stations are giving away for free?"

HDTV is like color TV - Once it becomes the de facto standard, nobody will be able to charge a premium for it.
