I just recieved a 250 Dinar Iraqi note. It was sent to me by a Marine in Iraq we sent a care package to. It means too much to ever get rid of, but I was just wondering what is the value of a USD compared to an Iraqi Dinar? I can also post a scan of his letter(names withheld) if you guys would like that too.

Beyond being a neat collectors item, I doubt it is worth anything.  I dont think you can exchange it in the US.

If I'm reading this right,http://www.x-rates.com/d/USD/IQD/graph120.html, then it's $3.22 to 1 Iraqi Dinar.

250 Dinars = $805.00!!!

I guess it's pretty close to  fatmans estimate.

Sounds like you found some AR money!  Like I said, I 'm not sure if I'm reading it right.  Maybe someone else could also verify this.

I just went to x-rates.com and it said that the exchange rate was 1 to 1 and that in the past 120 days it has not changed in value. Compare that to the pound and euro and they have been all over the place in value. Something isn't right with that page.

Looking at your link it looks like you may be comparing Iraqi Dinars to Iraqi Dinars.  You need to change one to  American dollars. [:D]

A couple of issues:

One, it may be counterfeit.  I read somewhere that Iraqi's were producing counterfeit Dinars, and selling them to our troops as souvenirs.

Two, some of the exchange rates sound a bit high.  The Iraqi Dinar may have been more valuable than the U.S. Dollar before the Gulf War I.  The Iraqi Dinar was near worthless during Gulf War II-something on the order of 300-400 Dinars per Dollar.  The current exhange rate still favors the U.S. Dollar...

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade-what you have is still damn cool.

Like I said, even if it WAS worth 805$ i wouldn't get rid of it. I think it was too kind of a gesture for him to send it to me. I just hope I can talk to him before I ship out for basic, he said he had some "close calls." The letter was written on April 22nd and he said he had already been in 3 of Saddam's palaces. No tellin where he got it, but ill sure ask him where if I get to see him
