All these warnings by Iran of how they're going to make use of terror attacks on civilians if we bomb them have me thinking about SHTF, and Trunk Guns.

What should I be looking for in a Trunk Gun? Obviously, size (small) is an advantage. What else?

AR or AK pistol of course.

they're full of shit.

but it's a good idea to have one.

I have had one for the last 4 years.

I had a Russian M38, 4 in the mag under the closed bolt, 9 rounds on the stock.

Now I carry a steyr straight pull carbine in the same config, but with bandoleers on the sling.

My truck gun:

Compack, lightweight, fits nicely in my ultra tactical secret compartment.

Just keep this guy in your trunk.

I think the odds of your trunk gun getting stolen or rusting are much higher than you getting attacked by teams of Iranian terrorists.

In Maryland trunk guns are illegal.

+1 howver mine has come in handy more than once for putting down an injured animal or taking out a coyote driving home in the afternoon.

But . . . but . . . that's what mah Glock Foh-tey is for!

Odd... I didn't know coyotes could drive.

How about this?

If you are comfy with having to reload after 10rds, go with an SKS. If you want higher capacity, go with a WASR-10 with a 75rd drum and several 30rd mags on standby.
Link Posted: 4/5/2006 6:04:02 AM EST
My trunk gun is a Kel_Tec SU-16C...tkaes AR mags and folds in half for easy storage.

Previously I used a mil-surp Ishapore Enfield rifle in 7.62X51 (NATO). I liked the ballistic advantage and the 12 round capacity. Just about any decent condition mil-surp will o and they are relatively inexpensive. A Russian Moison-Nagant M44 rifle is about 69.00 from any of the internet sellers and ammo is cheap, cheap.

Another good option is the Saiga .308 WIN AK type rifles.

Still there are those that prefer the good-ole American .30-.30 Win Lever gun.

The choices are endless...

Link Posted: 4/5/2006 6:04:48 AM EST
how about an AR, seems perfect to me.
Link Posted: 4/5/2006 6:05:48 AM EST
I'd personally just start CCW'ing a full size pistol with more reloads for starters. If it got hairier maybe an SKS.

If there were open fighting in the streets, I would probably carry an M1a with full web gear load of mags, etc.

You're bugged in and you get a call from a family member in distress. You need to get to them ASAP. What do you do NOW?

I'm a bug-in guy myself, but I could see situations where you have to leave your home fortress. You make it home before your wife does and she calls you saying she can't get home. That kind of thing.

Use the CCW to get yourself an Iranian AK.

If you did take out Iranian bad guys with their own AK's, do you think Bush would let you keep one?

folding stock 16" AR, FAL, or AK

Or, I think your chance of winning a the lotto is much, much greater.

But if you're going to keep a gun in your trunk, Brigade Quartermaster has these plastic bags originally designed to M16s.

And the fella from Duece Bigalow: Male Jiggylow.

"Hey fishie fishie! Hey fishie"

Right now my truck gun is a Norinco SKS loaded with 10 rds. of 124gr Sapsan JHP, chamber empty. I keep a Chinese SKS vest type thingy, with 20 extra stripper clips, with 10 rds of 124gr Sapsan JHP. I figure if something really bad ever hapened and, I have to go to work with the rifle, I will probably need some sustaining fire power.

I just got a bitching Enfield Jungle Gun, so we'll see how that plays out.

My plan was to use my AK-74 side folder or an AK-47 underfolder.

WTF? Waste ammo?

RUN THEM OVER!

P.S. Don't spill your coffee.

Or the possible collapse, at least temporarily, of society if they or anyone succeeds in pulling off a major attack.

I have a Mini-14 in the trunk of the car or behind the rear seat of the truck, depending on what I am driving on a given day. First, it's nice and light and fits in a regular slim rifle bag. Second, if it gets stolen or has to be kept as evidence if I ever have to use it, I am not out nearly as much money as I would be if I kept one of my ARs there.

I also occasionally use one of my Yugo SKSs for that purpose, but keeping the rounds on a stripper clip in a bag means they sometimes come off the clip. By law here in Ga, the rifle cannot be loaded while it is in the vehicle. I think that is to discourage people from hunting from their vehicle.

That's funny. Suicidal, but funny. Isn't the last guy who tried that pushing up daisies?

To paraphrase O_P, "Never bring a pistol to a rifle fight."

I was thinking about trunk guns earlier today.

In PA, you are not allowed to have a loaded rifle (rifle and ammo not in separate containers) in your vehicle.

If you have a license to carry firearms, you CAN carry a loaded pistol in your vehicle.

Wonder if this would be legal:

Make yourself an AK pistol from a kit, but leave the barrel at least 16". Make a custom trunion for the rear, that allows you to slide a modified buttstock into a groove; the stock snaps in place. Button on the side of the receiver/trunion releases it.

When stored in your trunk without the stock, it is legally a pistol. You can then, in a matter of seconds (once it's out of the car), snap the stock into place. Of course you would have to make sure you used enough US compliance parts so when the stock is on, it's still 922 legal.

Is that a crazy idea?

Would that be Manufacturing With Intent of violating NFA '34?

I like the SKS or a Marlin 336 as a trunk gun.

They're powerful enough, reliable, they don't have the dreaded assault rifle appearance, and if it get stolen or beat up then it's no big deal.

Not if the barrel is long enough to NOT be an SBR. Right?

Was thinking about an M1 Carbine, but at $700 for a so-so example <groan> I think it makes a poor choice.

Too bad I can't pick up one of those Inland carbines for $285...

my uber tactical Mod 92 Winchester clone with 24" barrel, 12 rounds of .45 Colt. Upload the loads to something approaching the 44 mag. Might even think about getting a stainless lever gun. Goes with the stainless Vaquero. Both pretty rugged and not too expensive to replace if stolen.

Not as nasty when seen and for a street fight a plenty effective round. Aint no way in hell I'm going to use an AR in CA as a trunk gun.

But thinking that the Iranians are going to be able to mount an effective terror campaign is a little far fetched. Now for those where they might actually do something it will be damn effective but on the grand scale, plllllft.
