My first tae instructor was from Iran, could not stand his ass. I was 11 and he picked on me because I had previously been taking bushido for 2 years. I kicked him in the nuts and got suspended for a month. I never went back.

Wasn't very good if he allowed an 11 yr/o to kick him in the nuts!  Taekwondo never appealed to me, although it's nice to know you can deliver your foot to someone's head...if they don't see it coming from a mile away, which to me, those types of kicks always signal your opponent well in advance. |

No he wasn't, but tae is a weak style anyways. I think he was 2" taller than me is all.  |

It's worked pretty well for me numerous times. Of course, I guess I'm kind of an outdated guy
 Nothing wrong with learning other systems, I just think it's kind of like the 9 v 45 argument. Since it's a tool, it's good to have more than one for different jobs. |

Taekwondo is all about looking cool. I saw some guys who supposedly were practicing for the olympics one time. They were "sparring" and while they were prancing around doing their nifty kicks they had their hands down around their waist the entire time, not even guarding their head. Any fool who knows how to fight would punch them right in the freakin mouth or neck and put them down pronto.

Yep… good fights by Lopez……and Iran was beaten by the 'Great Satan'  Steven Lopez (USA) beat Yossef Karami (Iran) By points (7-6) in the Semi Final Steven Lopez (USA) beat Bahri Tanrikulu (Turkey) By points (3-0) in the final and wins the Gold Medal ANdy |

Great comment by Lopez regarding the crowd favoring his opponent:
“The United States is the best country. It’s the strongest country, the most powerful country, and everyone’s envious. It doesn’t matter if it’s the Olympics, World Cup, world championships. Everyone always wants the United States to lose.” BTW, if I remember right, he beat a guy from Turkey for the Gold, not Iran. oh, I see he matched against the Iranian earlier, wish I had seen that match. |
