How bout a friendly lil game amongst friends. We'll keep it simple. Pick 5 stocks by next Monday, 29th. We will then record the closing price for that day. By the closing on Aug 30th, whomever has the most avg. percentage return on the 5 stocks picked wins the pot.
Your ante is 20rd box of Winchester .223 Q3131A Who's in?!?!? I'll see if I can get the post tacked and permantly locked on the 30th once we get all the prices in so that no one can change thing [;)] |
|
I'm in, but only if we can short. I am for short-sellers to be included.
|
|
Any stocks? Dow, Nasdaq, OTC? I know nothing about shorting, but this sounds like fun. And a box of 3131A is a small ante. Why the 29th? Any significance to that? How about post the picks on friday 26th and see how eveyone does by close of monday the 29th? Just asking. It's your game, but I'm in. (amateur rank)

Depending upon the final rules, I'd like to get in on this. I'll try to remember to check back.
Good idea. I love competitions. |

That way it is the same for everyone. Quoted: Are options allowed? View Quote No stocks only to make it simple. BTW, I have decided that I will house an excel sheet on my webpage to track it all. |

BTW I will get the official rules posted tonite. And the sample of the excel sheet.

No options? You have left 50% of us out in the cold.

For the benefit of us investing dummies, define:
1. shorting 2. options |

I think we should exclude options too. The expiration happens before the month's over. You could use September expiration, but I think we should stick to stocks.
August is the slowest month in the market though, isn't it? |

Alright LT,
Post the rules and lets get it on. And I'm no GURU |

This is when you SELL a stock that you don't own. In other words today I sell you 1000 shares of IBM at $50/share ($50,000). I am betting (literally) that before I have to deliver the shares to you I will be able to pick them up for less, say $49.50/share ($49,500). I make $500 selling you something that I didn't own at the time. Of course if IBM goes UP in the mean time, and I have to pay more than $50/share, I'm screwed. ________________________________________ If you can keep your head, while all around you are losing theirs, you obviously don’t know what’s going on. OK Here's how it goes. Remember I deviced this for the sake of keeping track of things easily.
1) Pick a maximum of five stocks and it will be valued as of close of business Mon the 29th of Aug. Game starts. Any stock trading on any US exchange. However you do not have to have 5 stocks. 1-2-3-4 up to 5. If you think you can win with 1 stock, feel free. You can add to it, up to five throughout the game. 2) No options or shorting or day trading. (ease of keeping track, I don't have a software to do this with) 3) We will play this like poker. You can get rid of your picks once a week on Fridays. Either to keep gains or just get rid of dead weight. But you have to keep at least 1 position. The sell would be based on that weeks Fridays closing value. The buy will be based on the following Mondays closing value. All sells should be e-mailed or IM's to me before close of market Fri. and buys before close of market Mon. 4) I will host an Excel spread sheet on my website to show all values and percentage returns on a weekly basis. I will post a link once its up loaded. 5) All position will be considered sold on the closing price of 30th of Aug. Person with the most percentage gain(or lesser percentage loss) averaged for the entire portfolio of up to 5 stocks wins. The pot is 20rd box of Winchester Q3131A from each of the participants. You will be responsible on an honor system to contact and send your 20rds to the winner. Post your picks on this post, and good luck. |

1) What if you want to weight one stock more (or less) heavily than another?
2) If (ahem) someone has no frogging clue about where to buy Q3131A, what's the going rate for a box so that that someone can just send cash? |

The game is afoot!!! Please check the spreadsheet in the link provided above. There is a mistake in the reporting of WCOEQ, it should be .245 not .45, I will correct that when I get home.
