CNN Headline News signs talker Beck

NEW YORK, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Conservative talk radio host Glenn Beck is taking his message to TV with a new hour-long show on CNN's Headline News cable channel.

CNN recruited Beck for its new primetime lineup in an effort to build on the popularity of its "Nancy Grace" show, Daily Variety reports.

Headline News President Ken Jautz told Variety he views Beck as "the next piece of the puzzle."

"Glenn's style is self-deprecating, cordial; he says he'd like to be able to disagree with guests and part as friends," Jautz said. "It's conversational, not confrontational."

Beck has moved his studio from Philadelphia to New York to be closer to the Headline News studios, Variety said.

His show is scheduled to debut on the cable news channel in April.

Will he be the token conservative, or is CNN trying to move away from the far left?

Glenn Beck is my favorite talk show host. Funny as hell, and not always stuck on the same boring topics as everyone else. "Moron Trivia" is awesome.

Does anyone actually watch Nancy Grace?  SHe gives me the creeps.  Always looks like she just got a nose full of shit stink.

ETA: She tries for the southern accent a little too hard, too.  It's silly.

Glen Beck is annoying.

Nice to see CNN picking up someone who's not a complete lib commie though.

EDIT: Ah Hell ... I was going to use my 20,000th post to post a +1 in some thread where someone was celebrating reaching 100 posts or similar.

The accent is very affected and comes across as fake. Plus she has stupid sayings like "locked 'n loaded" and she has no clue what that means.

I hate how she goes out of her way to empathize with her interviewees. That's also really fake.

Her appearance does nothing for me either and her stories are banal.

If she was the last woman alive and we were on a remote desert island together, I'd harvest her for food.

That's funny.  I have a year long Insiders subscription, though, unfortunately, I haven't listened in a few months.  I'm really supprised he'd go on CNN... especially in a TV format, arguing with people?

The day after the 2004 election, Beck had his Gloatfest 2004.  I damn near peed my pants listening to him on my way to work.  DAMN that was funny!

I think both.  I don't see them turning to the right that quickly....but they obviously understand they've been too far left for the Reds.

FOX has eaten their lunch and they're dipping their toes in the water, and it'll be awhile-if ever-before they'll go all-conservative.  They would have to dump a whole bunch of their staffers to do that....

I don't know how he will play on TV.  It would almost have to be a comedy talk show, where they take regular breaks for scripted comedy routines.

Some of the "Tonight, on Frontline..." commercials they had were awesome!  It even sounded like the guy that does the actual commercials.

Why would you be disappointed that he's working for CNN?  It isn't going to change his politics... for them to move more right, towards the center, they HAVE to hire people like him.

That's like saying that you're disappointed if a conservative Republican wins a California Senate seat, because they could have better served if they would have moved and ran for a Texas Senate seat.
