OK, you are alone, up stairs, and it's late at night. You have a phone close to you. You hear someone break into your house, but you don't know how many. In your closet, you have a 12 gauge with a 28 inch barrel, but only ONE shot. Right next to that 12 gauge, you have yourself a bolt action .22 LR with a 7 shot magazine. What would you do?

dial 911, throw the phone on the bed, grab the Colt 1911 which is in the bedside pistol safe and wait. Of course if wife and children were home, I would block the area to the bedrooms and wait. Forget the rifles...

Go downstairs and get my dogs off the poor SOB.

What are you talking about? I've got a loaded 1911 in my nightstand... heck, that's closer to me than the phone is! One magazine in it with 185gr Silvertip hollowpoints, and a magazine of 230gr ball right next to it. hehehe [pistol]

The HK USP45F is in the nightstand and the AR15 with 3 mags is 3 feet away. This scenario does not apply to myself.

Absolutely, leave the circuit open so the dispatcher can do the communications instead of you. If those firearms are the only options, I'd take the 12ga. You can rack the slide and possibly scare them away, if you let loose the one round, it may be enough to put them to flight, and worst case, use it as a bludgeon when it's empty, just keep the house dark so it's to your advantage.

First anyone that has those two weapons in such a poor state of readiness deserves to have their stuff stolen. But.... I take the .22 rifle, unload it, and my bedside Glock 27. Call the cops, leave phone on so operator can hear what is happening. Slip phone into my pocket. Head to the upstairs hallway, announce that I am armed and the intruder better leave. Depending on their response, I either wait for the cops to come and make a report, or I wait for the coroner. BTW, the reason I took the .22 was so that if they confronted me, I would throw it at them to give them something to do. Then do a double tap to their COM.

Dial 911. Hide in the closet until the sun comes out, kicking yourself for not having more shells. Go out the next day and buy more shells, an AR, 100+rounds of ammo as many mags as you can until your credit card maxes out, a gas mask, MRE's, Spam, tin foil hat, and vow you'll NEVER be unprepared again. [soapbox]

Ok. Slip out the window, and climb down the side of your house. Then slice up the tires of the crooks' car(I live in a rural area, if they walked all the way to rob me, they've earned the right to steal something). Next, climb back up into the bedroom. Grab the shotgun. Walk out into the hallway, and pump the shotgun. Then state loudly, "Finally, I get to hunt me some human." Then laugh as they run off into the distance carrying a load in their shorts minus one car.

Never had to use my guns in my home. I once racked the slide on my gun when some punks tried to rob me near my truck. The 2 of them took off faster than a jack rabbit. But, in my case beside my bed is a revolver with 5 rounds and the hammer over an empty chamber, A 9mm Carbine w. A full 10 Round Magazine of 9mm FMJ, an SKS w. a full 30 Round High Capacity Magazine Inserted and an extra magazine within easy reach, and to finish it up a 12 Gauge shotgun with 2-3" #000 Magnum Rounds loaded. It's blocked to 2 rounds per hunting regulations.

I deserve to be robbed if this is how prepared I am. Fortunately, in real life I'm much more prepared than that. I've got two .40S&W pistols and my AR15 within reach of my side of the bed. I've got ten loaded 20rd magazines in a Sportmans Dry Box and another fourteen 30rd magazines loaded in my AR's hard case. If that can't handle the situation, it's probably more than I bargained for or a zombie horror movie. At this point I start practicing the mantra "BRAINS! BRAINS!@!@#$" God Bless Texas

Wing-um with the shotgun and then use a pair of vice grips on them until I was tired. I would then go to sleep and start fresh in the morning with the power tools and a hand cranked generator.

Hard to say I would ever find myself in that situation...I always have my 1911 with me. But...for sake of this post.... I would call 911 quickly explain, leave the phone off the hook, take the shotgun and rifle and hunt me some people. but again..since I have my 1911 and extra mag besides the bed when I sleep and my wife has a nice little 5 shot .38 next to her along with my AR behind the door of the bedroom with 30 round mag....and my German Shep walking the house ....I think I am pretty safe! My German Shep does not like to let people in HER! house...unless I tell her to..hehehe I love big dogs! medcop

If these were the only options, and asssuming the perp knows I'm home, first I'd call grab the shotgun and load it. Next call 911, third lay ambush were I could get the drop on the guy. My reason for choosing the shotgun is the higher chance for a one shot stop, add to that my element of suprise. If need be it would also make a good club(just hope its the one without the recoil pad, better for cracking skulls). After that let the games begin[shotgun]
