I went to the local gun shop today intending to buy some 7.62x39 to feed the SKS. They had none. Furthur, the proprietor told me that there was none to be had and 'rumor had it that it's going to be very hard to get in the future" He suggested I go to a gun show and try to find some there. WTF?

So, I called customer service at Wolf Ammo direct. Spoke with a very pleasant young lady there who told me that such a rumor is untrue and that they have shipments coming in all the time. She said they were aware of the rumor. She went on to tell me that there is a lot of backlog out there due in good part to 'panic buying' because of the rumor. She assured me that there will be plenty of ammo to go around and that it's not going away.

Interesting, no?

The rumor that I've heard is that all of Barnaul's production will be going to the supply the Russian military for the war in Chechnya.

Don't know how true this is though.

so someone started the rumor to cause a panic so that wolf would sell out all current supply and therefore sell more ammo....

The rumor I heard was that Venezuela's Chavez had bought up months of production in prepartion for a possible US invasion.

More rumor sqashing, regarding Q3131A:

I called Winchester yesterday. While they have none in inventory, production has not ceased. The military demand has been overwhelmingly high, but civilian sales will not be ceased. She says the stuff is in really high demand, but distributors can still order it. No word on when more will be in inventory.

As long as we're having a good time with this.....Hamas bought up all they could...with US taxpayer subsidies.....for the inevitable invasion by Israel.......

What pisses me off is the price gouging local dealers try to get away with. Dealers in my area are selling Wolf at 3.99 per 20 rounds and $200+ per 1,000. I understand supply and demand, but unless they are actually PAYING more for it, they should not be asking such outrageous prices.  Has the wholesale cost actually gone up?

Wow!
The only 7.62x39mm Ammoman has is American. $200 for 500 rounds!

Who ever thought we would see the day when AK ammo was twice the price of 5.56mm?

I found 320 rounds of 7.62x39 at a local pawnshop.  They came in 20 round white boxes labeled TCW ammunition  and made in Russia.  I paid $56 at $3.50 a box for all of it, but the guy at the pawnshop didn't charge me tax so didn't feel too bad about buying it at that price.

I grabbed 200 rounds for $25 last August at the Saxet gun show. It wasn't Wolf, but I figure Barnaul is close enough.

I'm in central PA for a while and I am going to take my brother to the range tomorrow (he hasen't been able to do much since his cancer surgery). I bought some ammo for the AR, but all of the gunshops in the area are out of 7.62x39. The only thing I could find was some overpriced Winchester white box at wally world.

So we will only be able to shoot an AR, a .22 and a 22-250.

So now would be a good time to sell that 7.62x39 I have sitting in an ammo can that I can't use (I sold my last 7.62x39 firearm 6 years ago)?

Our local gun shop tells us it's all going to the Iraqi Army.

One other shop around here has loads of it. 4 bux a box, though.

Well, the trick is buy/stockpile them when it pentiful, and don't buy when its not.  I'm not a big fan of 7.62X39, but I do have a case bought a number of number of years ago to feed my Ruskie SKS.  The problem is that commodities are at a all-time high at the moment and new production bullets are going to reflect it.

the primer scare was during the Klinton Regime, sometime during 1993-1995, forget exactly when.  Was after Brady Bill passed, gun grabbin' fucktards were on a roll, and it looked like so called "Brady Bill II" would pass, which required an "arsenal license" if you had 1000 rds of ammo, which meant 2 bricks of 22LR or even 1000 primers.

I just received 4,000 rounds (Wolf) 7.62 from SPG last night - Total was $400 and change with shipping and a coupon from my last order.  I didn't realize there was a shortage ? I mostly shoot 5.56 and .308........
