And all it took was a Swordfish w/ one torpeado to send her into a spin that would be her end. I would of added more AA and shrink the main guns a size or more if weight was an issue. Silly Germans

(Johnny Horton and Tilman Franks)

In May of nineteen forty-one the war had just begun
The Germans had the biggest ship that had the biggest guns
The Bismark was the fastest ship that ever sailed the seas
On her deck were guns as big as steers and shells as big as trees

Out of the cold and foggy night came the British ship the Hood
And evry British seaman, he knew and understood
They had to sink the Bismark, the terror of the sea
Stop those guns as big as steers and those shells as big as trees

We'll find that German battleship thats makin' such a fuss
We gotta sink the Bismark 'cause the world depends on us
Hit the decks a-runnin' boys and spin those guns around
When we find the Bismark we gotta cut her down

The Hood found the Bismark and on that fatal day
The Bismark started firin' fifteen miles away
We gotta sink the Bismark was the battle sound
But when the smoke had cleared away
The mighty Hood went down

For six long days and weary nights they tried to find her trail
Churchill told the people "Put ev'ry ship a-sail"
'Cause somewhere on that ocean I know she's gotta be
We gotta sink the Bismark to the bottom of the sea

We'll find that German battleship thats makin' such a fuss
We gotta sink the Bismark 'cause the world depends on us
Hit the decks a-runnin' boys and spin those guns around
When we find the Bismark we gotta cut her down

The fog was gone on the seventh day and they saw the mornin' sun
Ten hours away from homeland the Bismark made its' run
The admiral of the British fleet said "Turn those bows around"
We found that German battleship and we're gonna cut her down

The British guns were aimed and the shells were comin' fast
The first shell hit the Bismark, they knew she couldn't last
That mighty German battleship is just a memory
"Sink the Bismark" was the battle cry that shook the seven seas

We found that German battleship was makin' such a fuss
We had to sink the Bismark 'cause the world depends on us
We hit the decks a-runnin' and we spun those guns around
Yeah, we found the mighty Bismark and then we cut her down

We found that German battleship was makin' such a fuss
We had to sink the Bismark 'cause the world depends on us
We hit the decks a-runnin' and we spun those guns around
We found the mighty Bismark and then we cut her down

Good song.

Um the Brit is right, also know one knew what that Crazy Nazi was going to do. That said We as a nation didn't commit troops till 1941/1942. As for individuals we had volunteers that were working with the Cunucks and the Brits forces.

Either way... even after us throwing a tantrum, throwing tea into a harbor, at least the Brits and their former Colonies show up for any of the Fights we throw down on.

Nah..... we know you are just like us and love a bloody good fight.  It kicked off in 1939, we battered them in 1940 and said:   "Hang on chaps!!!  Where's the bloody Yanks!!!??  Before we finish this little lot off, it would be a jolly decent gesture for someone give the Yanks a call and let them know there's a war on....... they've been a bit depressed of late and it would be good to get them out with the lads for a bit of a knees-up...... I'm sure there's enough of Jerry to go around"

We don't need you..... we just like having you guys around..... you put on an impressive display, speak the same language and share the same values.......Your beer is cold wet piss, and your cars don't go round corners, but other than that we like having you around......You're all practically British anyway

You know us Brits...... we could start a fight in an empty room.

Friday night is about having a few beers with your mates and then punching their lights out, and then carrying oneanother home and talking about what a cracking night out it's been.

As for the Tea thing....... it's all forgiven..... we just invaded India and took all theirs to replace it.

USS Washington could have obliterated both Bismarck and Tirpitz with not much problem.   16" radar controlled guns firing Mark 8 2,700lb AP projectiles = dead German vessels.   Nice thing about USS Washington's radar, it could see Bismarck or Tirpitz in the dark, the fog, even if they make smoke, the German vessels could not.

Re-militarization of the Rhineland occurred in 1936 and was a clear violation of the treaty of Versailles.   While not as serious as the invasion of poland, it was the beginning of Germany testing the waters.   Once he got away with that, he pushed for control of the Sudetenland.  The war should have begun in 1936, but I guess I can't blame everyone for being war weary after WWI.  Besides, it is not like we got invovled until 41.

We declared war on 3rd September 1939.  Prior to that a formal declaration of war from a still free Nation was not forthcoming (Poland had declared on Germany on 1st September '39 but was quickly over-run)

And you are right, the US didn't join the fay until December '41.  I believe that the US declared war on Japan on 7th December '41........ we jumped into the fight with Japan on the 8th December '41.  US Declared war on Germany on 11th December '41.

The Second Sino-Japanese War (Japanese invasion of China) started in 1937 after the Marco Polo Bridge Incident.

You guys sat on your thumbs in Burma and Hong Kong and told the Chinese "so sorry, your eyes are the wrong shape, so as long as the other odd-eyed buggers don't bother us during tea time we'll just let you lot be massacred, raped, and cannibalized.  Cheerio."

American pilots were flying under Chinese colors against Japan as early as 1938.
